50% of the time when I get a package now, the packaging has been ripped or unsealed. Some envelopes too. Maybe it's from the standard wear and tear of media mail.  :-\

Maybe not.  >:(

I don't think this used to be the case.

Instead of killing each other, postal workers are now just destroying the packages.

They're peeking at my stuff!

They are peeking at your stuff.

It does not happen to me. What are you ordering?

Books, CDs, DVDs...

knight66

Oh, yes, we probably all thought that; but what kind of subversive, pinko, mind-rotting pornography is it.....Haydn perhaps?

If so, then you get all the peeking you deserve; you degenerate.

This never happens to me concerning private post or packages from e.g. Amazon or Presto Classical, neither if it´s about books or CDs. But JPC envelops the post rather badly, and almost every package from this firm is more or less torn. But the contents have never been missing or damaged.

I received an Amazon package once where all that arrived was the shrink-wrapped contents--minus box. Luckily my address was on the packing slip beneath the shrink-wrap's surface.

But this was an exceptional event, I suppose.

True. And at least they got it to me; but the books were pretty beat up, so I returned it all and had Amazon resend.

Not really; just your taste.

Ouch.

Anyway...Once I received an envelope--containing personal information--and the edges were slit...

At this end--><-- And this end.

I work in a shipping facility handling parcels.  I can tell you for a fact that we loaders are not exactly careful with your packages: we toss them, we cram them into the package walls, we accidentally step on them when they fall off the rollers, we kick and whack them when they get jammed coming down the slides.  Every once and a while a parcel will come open and we'll just stick everything back inside and toss it in.  No, not the best handling at all.  I try to be careful, but you have to move fast to ensure on-time delivery.  When music I ordered arrives in the mail I'm not the least bit surprised that clasps are broken, the shrink wrap is coming off, the hinges have snapped, there are cracks in the case, etc.  This is why it is crucial to use good, sturdy boxes and lots of tape when you ship packages!

You can rest assured, however, that any and all theft is not tolerated under any circumstances.  No "three strikes"; once and you're out, with charges on the way.

So I can lose the hat?

You can, but it looks so good on you!  ;D

knight66

Dave, I assume you get transmissions from outer space wearing that hat?

I've only had minor damage incidents (mainly cracks in the CD cases, never a destroyed disc) with jpc parcels, all of them related with postal maltreatment, but never an opened/unsealed box. Everyone else seems to pack most prodigiously. Hyperion is so proficient it takes extra time to open the parcel.
