Brilliant, John! Very good performances, I watched them on the Digital Concert Hall a while ago. I love this Takemitsu pieces, and even better, it has my 5 favourite percussionists as the soloists!

Enjoy! :D

Very cool, Daniel. I can't wait to watch them. I don't think I've heard this Takemitsu work before so it'll be cool to hear it. I'm really looking forward to the Shosty 5 performance. It will be my second on DVD/Blu-ray format. :)

Well what else could she do except invite her in and offer her a cup of tea?

'Mit Wellgunde wär' ich zu zwei,' she said, with a smile.

Very funny, Elgarian. :)

'Oh,' said Woglinde, 'We all know that a watched kettle never boils.'
But she could see Wellgunde didn't get the joke (she never did), and indeed was looking rather cross; so she hid behind the table.
'Sicher vor dir!' she muttered, under her breath. 'I hope Flosshilde comes soon.'

I think you will enjoy the Takemitsu, John. It's a really beautiful, haunting, brilliant piece. The orchestration is sublime. Before you watch it all, take a look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTe_WCguQqs. I just love those tubular bells hanging from the ceiling! Really beautiful...

Yes, the Shostakovich performance is also excellent! Enjoy, John!

Must have been a great concert to attend....

Thanks, Daniel. I've seen that video before and it made me search my Takemitsu collection only to find that I didn't have it on record! Anyway, I'm glad I do now. 8) I look forward to more performances from this company for Shostakovich. I know Rattle has done the 4th and 10th with the Berliners and I know it was filmed. Now, if only they would release it! :)

Great, John! I think there has only been one recording of this piece before, I think with Andrew Davis as the conductor? Can't quite remember... The only performance I actually know is this one.

Those Rattle Shostakovich performances are brilliant, really thrilling! You can find them both on the Digital Concert Hall. If you go to the BPO facebook page and subscribe to it, there will be a survey there and all you have to do to get that free 48-hour ticket is complete it. It takes no time at all, and then you can watch all that Shostakovich! :D

Thanks, Daniel. I'll have to check that out, but I'm afraid I just can't watch that much right now. My listening pile is quite large. I still haven't listened to any of Maxim Shostakovich's Shosty cycle nor have I finished Kondrashin's cycle. I also had bought a 7 CD set of Shosty's film music released on Capriccio that I haven't listened to either. Not to mention the Kurchar series of Prokofiev on Naxos and the Markl set of Debussy's orchestral works on Naxos. Where to start, where to start...

Stop buying, man! You must report to the CDCDCD thread immediately to be appropriately shamed in classic AA style...

Flosshilde has just arrived, she's knocking on the door.....'Heiaha weia! Wildes Geschwister!'

Woglinde takes one look at Flosshilde's appalling new hat, desperately tries to hide her laughter, but fails, and dashes off to the bathroom. Wellgunde is not pleased (she's still waiting for her cup of tea): 'Flosshilde, schwimm'! Woglinde flieht: hilf mir die Fliessende fangen!'

I understand, John! I am in a similar situation! I have enough cds that I haven't listened to yet to last me at least another year already.
And I want to buy so many more too!

If you get the Digital Concert Hall free voucher now, you can save it for some time in the future. You might as well!

John - you seem to be talking a lot more about Mahler recently! This is very very pleasing... :)

Yeah, Mahler has been on my mind a good bit lately, Daniel. It's only a matter of time before he becomes a favorite. I've really always admired his music, so, again, it's all a matter of time. 8)
