Yeah, Mahler has been on my mind a good bit lately, Daniel. It's only a matter of time before he becomes a favorite. I've really always admired his music, so, again, it's all a matter of time. 8)

This is so incredibly pleasing to hear, John! Let us know how your Mahler-listening goes! :)

Just bought for $66 with free shipping:

None of these is my favorite (I've seen several on Mezzo, and not all of them), but the performance of #2 was a bit eye opening for me and it was the first time I really enjoyed it. Mahler is not my favorite, but I find this series quite enthralling. Perhaps there is something about the live venue. The quality of the playing is outstanding. I imagine the picture will be amazing in blu-ray. Enjoy!

Woglinde takes one look at Flosshilde's appalling new hat, desperately tries to hide her laughter, but fails, and dashes off to the bathroom. Wellgunde is not pleased (she's still waiting for her cup of tea): 'Flosshilde, schwimm'! Woglinde flieht: hilf mir die Fliessende fangen!'

After coming back to the living room, the three Rhine maidens start playing Monopoly, but Woglinde and Wellgunde are very poor players and they are losing almost all their money; Flosshilde is winning too easily, but she doesn't want the game to finish immediately: 'Des Goldes Schlaf hütet ihr schlecht! Besser bewacht des schlummernden Bett, sonst büsst ihr beide das Spiel!'

It'd be better to stop with this free interpretation of Wagner's libretto, we are enlarging the matter of the thread too much ;D

I've seen various videos of this series on YouTube and the performances sound magnificent. It should be an enjoyable experience. Thanks for your feedback, Neal.

Great choice! Abbado did marvelous job in past 10 years. His Mahler 3,4,6,7,8,9 with BPO become my favorite now. But this set has the wonderful Mahler 2,one of the very best in digital era.

Good to hear! Glad you enjoy Abbado's Mahler. I always have too. His 7th with the CSO is one of my all-time favorite performances of this symphony.

Recently when I hear the great recording Mahler 5 in EMI's Mahler Anniversary box, I was shock about the spontaneous and tremendous ability of Tennstedt in live concert, contradict with his dutiful recordings in studio. So I curious about another recordings from him

My Dad is the Mahler man in the family and I'm quite certain he owns both of these recordings. I like Tennstedt's Mahler recordings a lot.

You're right - I was thinking the same myself. But I enjoyed our game very much. Thanks for playing!

I understand, John! I am in a similar situation! I have enough cds that I haven't listened to yet to last me at least another year already.
And I want to buy so many more too!

If you get the Digital Concert Hall free voucher now, you can save it for some time in the future. You might as well!

I've got 76 hours worth of music to listen to for the first or second time. That will take probably at least three months.  :-[ Awful times of wonderful discoveries await me...

Thankfully, my Dad owns all the Mahler recordings, so I really don't have to buy anything. I just found this Mahler Blu-ray deal unmissable, so I took the plunge. :)

I know you have lots of unlistened-to discs, and I am usually one of those law-and-order type. But do let these discs cut in line. The rest can wait.

Yes sir, Paul! $:) I've been wanting to hear Elektra and Salome for quite some time. I wanted to get a lot of Wagner under my belt before I went onto Strauss' operas. :)
