Great take, Roy Greg.

Ordered three issues of Listen: Life With Classical Music magazine. The current issue (Spring 2012) looked great and I only skimmed the surface of it but it some cool articles in it and it also had an article devoted to Stravinsky's ballet Jeu de cartes, which I think is one of Stravinsky's best, but underrated ballets.

This is the current issue:

Then you didn't purchase this trove?

A great mistake, indeed.

Just placed an order on the following twofers this evening ...

I bought these two tonight rather cheaply ($25 for the Mussorgsky and $6 for the Prokofiev):

I think I'm done for awhile. There is something strange going on with a Lyadov/Svetlanov recording that came out in the US on Tusday. It's availablity seems to be quite limited. I'm going to buy this though when it becomes more readily available.

Absolutely Wonderful CD.

Good to hear, Paul. Is this the Shostakovich or Rimsky-Korsakov orchestrated version?

Shostakovich with the Stravinsky final scene.

There is also a DVD of it with mostly the same forces as well.

;D Well, I tend to avoid those everything-and-anything boxes: in most cases I either I have the recordings included already, or I don't want them... And I guess the latter cases go severely against the grain of my compulsive collection-building habits: I'm not good at taking the bad along with the good. ::) 8)

This set arrived today (my copy is the HMV version and not the Angel as pictured) :):

I prefer the old fashioned way: to check out if I want individual discs included in a set, even if they have been packaged into a big box. I mean I don't have a philosophical position against big. medium or small boxes, as they are simply that: boxes.  :)

At least you lasted 10 minutes..........

I buy quite a lot myself, but this compulsion to own every avaialble recodring of a work I'm thankfully spared.

I've actually been looking at these two recordings for quite some time. I like Gary Bertini's conducting and Martha Argerich played Ravel's Piano Concerto in G tipped to scale definitely in Bertini's favor. Can't wait to hear these!

We never believed you anyway. ;) I can't remember the last time I went to 'unread posts' and looked at the 'Purchases Thread' without it saying 'last post: Mirror Image'. :D

Those recordings do look interesting though, John. :)
