IMO that would diminish the effect. The pipe, the suave 50s style, the quips, it works perfectly. I wouldn't change a thing.

Funny: last month I bought that same Philips Berlioz Requiem, but it comes paired (much more logically) with the Te Deum. Anyhow, it's a grand, grand performance, probably still the best around.

The Brahms String Sextets from the Nash Ensemble on Onyx.  In addition to this new one, I have the L'Archibudelli on Sony Vivarte, Hausmusik on Signum, Leipzig on MDG and Raphael on Hyperion; L'Archibudelli is my favorite.

  I agree with Harry, Florestan I have that same Beethoven cello and piano sonatas recording that you purchased and I love it.

This one 2 cd's for 4,99 euro's with some fine music, very well recorded, and for the first time ever, I am told.

Likewise. I adore Bantock but this has had mixed reviews, is spread over three discs and is quite pricey.

On the plus side it is Chandos and Vernon Handley.

Oh, I'll probably get it, anyway...but not yet. :-\

I attended the German premiere of "Magma" (Symphony No.4), also with Glennie and under Järvi, with his Frankfurt Radio Symphony. Quite an enganging work at about a half hour. A great big lump, but a very colorful great big lump.
