Just landed:

Tippett
Concerto for Double String Orchestra
Magnificat & Nunc dimittis
Fantasia concertante on a theme of Corelli
&c.

Tippett
Concerto for Violin, Viola and Cello
Concerto for Piano

Had to fetch these in on my own account;  paulb sent them with his compliments, but also, so poorly packaged that when they arrived, they were only shards  :'(

And, at long last, the Shostakovich re-orchestration of the Schumann Cello Concerto, about which I have long had keen curiosity:

Harry

I am really curious after those recordings Karl, all of them!

Yes;  and again, that Blom quote in your signature is still a Real Turkey ;)

Read carefully that quote doesn't really sound like a real compliment. Take a truly great composer like Beethoven, would you ever say he possess the style of xyz or he is reminiscent of composer abc? The truly great remind us of nobody but their own styles.

Well, if you fail to hear Berlioz's craftmanship in Elgar's use of orchestra that's your problem. Not Blom's or mine.
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

Yes, clearly I would be much better off, if I knew Berlioz's works as well as you, right?  ;D

Well, I am still working away at Britten, Harry.

I don't think you'd mind Britten's sopranos so much, mijn vriend!

Well that would be good news indeed! :)

Have you tried Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire, Harry? :)

No, I have not.
I have some chamber music from this composer, but that's about it.
Tis on my list however to approach this composer more openly!

Then you're in for a real treat of screaming soprano!  :)

You need one work from both Berlioz and Elgar to make the comparison and hear the similarities.

Only because I had the divine inspiration to turn it off at about half way through.  ;D

Maybe I am a bourgeois reactionary, but Schoenberg and his likes (some Alban Berg excepted) are not my cup of tea. :)

Well you could say the same of me, so I agree with you about that!

Schoenberg is so interesting, Harry. It's as if he decided to push the harmonic territories of Beethoven's Grosse Fuge even further. Shostakovich and Mahler of course explored those realms as well.

His String Quartets are really fascinating.
