Looks like Amazon US has started a pre-Christmas price war, as I have never seen the Solti's Ring for less than $90.
Maybe with the Bohm Ring so cheap, it has caused this one to lose some sales?
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

I think the Solti's Ring has always been considered the best, with Karajan's Ring not far behind.  I have the Bohm's Ring.  It is also pretty good, though not as good as Solti's and Karajan's.

You're welcome. Yes, it was a good price. I wish I had waited as I paid around $95 for mine. :(

that's an excellent set of recordings there... the Cello Sonatas is exceptionally fine; Karajan's 70's set of Brahms is proably his strongest, and although I don't own the Faust VC, you simply can't go wrong with the quality of her musicianship... excellent haul...  8)

Brendel plays Mad Hatter. Not a bad investment for $1, you think?

That's indeed a very interesting option! ;D

What made you opt for Isserlis?

Two things:  The first is that he's one of my favorite cellists; the latter is the reviews speaking of his playing the works at 'dance-like' speed and not over-romanticizing them.  It seemed like an interesting interpretation.  I'll probably supplement with Starker and an HIP recording later on.

Yes, that is true, and even I appreciate his playing for that reason. On the other hand his version feels a bit surfing and lacks the weight of the equally dancing interpretations of e.g. Heinrich Schiff (EMI) and Morten Zeuthen (Danish Classico).

Thanks for the recommendations.  I'll look into those recordings, too.

Also ordered this, which I have been considering for a while, but was pushed over the edge when it was mentioned on another thread :):

I'm not familiar with any of Faust's work, personally; I bought it primarily on the strength of this recording also conducted by Daniel Harding.  The man is a great Brahmsian conductor and I'm sure he would choose to work with an equally great soloist.

Some more Respighi on Chandos and two obscure composers on Marco Polo:

The last two recordings pictured (the Kinsella and Meulemans) came as new discoveries for me came courtesy of Christo by viewing his list for favorite composers by country.
