Judging from his Giustini da Pistoia set, that could be a treat! :)

On first listen, I'm finding it a little long-winded for such a simplistic story; but yes, I can see how it can serve well as an introductory piece. I however got through the PC3, CfO/V and the violin rhapsody No. 1. :)
My introduction has been Menuhin's recordings of the rhapsodies, VnC 1 and VaC, and later Argerich/Dutoit PC3 from the big box o' 20th Century, EMI.

Ah, good stuff! For years--seven, at least--I've lustily circled the Thorofon box of Rheinberger's complete chamber music...
and earlier today I finally pulled the trigger. Too good to pass up -- and bound to be very unavailable very soon.

It landed.

J. Rheinberger
Complete Chamber Music
6 CDs, Thorofon

Includes:
Nonet in E-flat (for flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, violin, viola, cello, and double bass)
Sextet in F-major (for piano, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and horn)
Piano Quintet in C major
String Quintet in A minor
Piano Quartet in E-flat major
String Quartet No.1, C minor
String Quartet No.2, F major
Theme & Variations for String Quartet
Piano Trio No.1, D minor
Piano Trio No.2, A major
Piano Trio No.3, B-flat major
Violin Sonata No.1, E-flat major
Violin Sonata No.2, E-flat minor
Cello Sonata, C major

The Nonet is among the pinnacles of chamber music., much of the rest is very excellent, too, so far as I have heard them.

So this is not a case of No,No, Nonett?

I believe an error in the manuscript was caught in the proofs and corrected in time for the first printing; therefore we know no one knows Nono's nonette no-no, no?

Incidentally, I bought this truly lovely recording of early music. Lots of doublings between a monophonic vocal line and a highly elaborated version of the same melody played on some sort of zither. highly recommended if you like this sort of thing. (Heterophony, ho!)

You'll be happy to know, then, that it was your recommendation of this recording (and review on Amazon UK) that lead to my purchase.

Wow, Q,  if that Bach/Vivaldi disc is even half as good as the Jacquet de la Guerre, then you really struck gold with those Auvidis/Astree discs!
