The new erato

A small order from mdt.

The first disc is selfexplanatory I think, a new Braga Santos disc from Naxos to supplement the very fine symphony series:

The slow movement from the 2nd symphony of this disc once was on a Gramophone sampler disc and impressed me; at last time to get the whole:

A new release by him on Naxos? Did miss that one, obviously. :(

I like it a lot, and someone the other day (Antoine? Que?) said they felt it was the best 'bang for the buck' box that Brilliant has ever produced. I don't know, I haven't heard them all...  :D
Yes, it was me. Fortunately to me, Brilliant Classics, like me, has a soft spot for Bach and Haydn. So, its more ambitious own releases  have been dedicated to them. Probably a remarkable exception were the Mozart symphonies, conducted by Jaap ter Linden.  :)

Antoine, do you mean that the Linden/Mozart symphonies were an exception in being poor? Or that they're good, despite not being Bach or Haydn?

The second choice: it was an interesting large project (although not top-shelf, IMO) beyond Bach and Haydn.  :)

Were the Frescobaldi discs licensed?

No, I think all of them (at least what I have) were an original release.

I only realised later that what you consider as 'da bomb' is probably the set of Trio 1790 discs. :) Is that one complete?

Yes, it is disgustingly complete. And the harpsichord trios are played on harpsichord, while the fortepiano trios are... well, you know where I'm going. :D   The only piece on the Van Sweiten set not on Trio 1790 is Hob 15:39, which is actually a group of 5 (possibly unrelated) Klaviertriostücke rather than a clear keyboard trio. They seem to be from 1767, so one can even live with the fortepiano (barely) playing them. :D

Four parcels to report on in the last two days: a Back order, a Bargain, and a Bunch
A back order from ArkivMusic

A bargain from Amazon Italy

Yes, the booklet is only in Italian, but otherwise it is apparently the whole Hog-wood.
And a bunch from Presto, to complete two orders I made within a few days of each other.

I've only listened to a couple of these so far, and will only comment on the Fretwork, since it's a new release.  It's spread onto 2 CDs, at 90'15" (the break comes between variations 15 and 16); it successfully naturalizes the Goldbergs into a work for viol consort, but I'm not sure it's a version I'll keep coming back to.

The new erato

Coincidentally, my Hogwood Mozart box arrived from Italy yesterday as well!

Volumes 10-14 of Kuijken's Bach cantata series. Cancelled Christmas to do it. This is precisely how I wanted it to sound. Spectacularly good.

This is my favorite rendition of these three favorite symphonies. It's a terrific disc.  :)

Nice amazon session in which I spent almost 80% of my commission money I was given by the Misbourne Symphony Orchestra. :)

As well as some percussion, some nice Sennheiser PX200 headphones, I also brought this, what looks like an excellent, set of Debussy's complete piano music. Looking forward to listening to it! :)

Now, what to spend the rest on.... I'll probably be sensible, and save it. For a while :)

That Debussy set includes, I think, the luminous performance of 'Clair de lune' which was used in the film Atonement. If you're old enough to see that ;)
