Ordered from amazon.co.uk:

My set is still in the shrinkwrap a few months after I bought it ...    :(

Coopmv

Just placed the order on this set this evening at (literally) no costs to me since I used my credit card reward points to pay for it.

Just landed:

[asin]B000VPNK5Q[/asin]

Busy day, though, probably won't get a chance to listen to it to-day . . . .

Hm, this one was a library copy (not the first such I've ordered in) . . . defective. Must get another and a better!

Ah! Thanks for remembering! And that's good to know... almost decidedly worth having the booklet on CD-ROM, huh?

Just checked the CD-Rom. All it has is 2 PDF versions of the 96-page booklet (one high res at 43Mb, one low res at 4mb).

Picture of the boxset itself. I like the layout of it with the standalone receptacle like that.

I do too. I have the original unwieldly and impossible to shelve original. This is really tempting. They are probably my favorite set; the duplication might be worth it--especially since I have a defective Op.59/1.

Just listening to the DSCH 5th now.  After you hear this, tell me how an orchestra can play this fast in the finale?  Without losing cohesion? Or consciousness?....It's truly unbelievable.  Another huge grin to follow, Sarge!

I always felt that way about Furtwangler's wartime finale of Beethoven 9. He actually drives it beyond the point of losing cohesion. In a way, it is magical.

I had a preorder at Amazon for it and then saw the Importcd sale about 3 weeks ago.  It was $1 cheaper then.

I got just enough from the Disky to pay for the new set (Disky sold for $26).

Those who read the Collections and Sub-Collections thread will have seen this as it developed.
Ordered today:
--the DG box of Bernstein conducting Shostakovich and Stravinksy
--the Membran 10 CD box of Klemperer conducting a complete cycle of Beethoven symphonies,  with some Bruckner and Brahms thrown in
and four other complete sets of LvB's symphonies
    Hogwood/AAM
    Norrington/LCP
Barenboim/Berliner Staatskapelle  (2000--the DB with Fedora set)
Barenboim/East-West Divan Orchestra (2012--the Beethoven for All set)

When all these land, I will have 23 sets of Beethoven symphonies.   I remember a time when I had 10 and told myself, "Dude, you have more than enough of these."  Obviously I didn't listen.

I've got 18 Sibelius symphony cycles. I said after the 10th one "Okay, that's enough!" I don't listen to my own rational thinking either, Jeffrey. :D

I renewed my GMG subscription -  have enough unheard discs on hand that abstention from purchases won't to balance the budget (it's tax time here) may not be a hardship and I do have some on order but not yet received.
