I have not been posting in the movie thread all that much of late due to the fact that I have not been watching any.  Instead, for the past year+, I have been watching the CSI television series on disc.   Every Friday, I have popped in a disc and watched 4 episodes (or whatever the disc held).  I am now into Season 9 and the character Gil Grissom is about to leave the show.  Well, so am I.  I have snuck views of the show without his character and they are only so-so to me.

So, I would like to start another series of television, new or old.  Here is a handful that I axed already:

Any of the other CSI series.  Time for a break.
Criminal Minds-I enjoy it from time to time, but that is it.
Firefly-Just finished last year
X-Files-Loved it, but one go around seemed to be enough.

Thanks!

The Sopranos (excellent psychological drama, but requires ability to tolerate occasional moments of extreme mobster violence).

First four seasons of NYPD Blue are available, the seasons with David Caruso and Jimi Smits are very good.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (watch the short first season, then you'll know if you love it or hate it, there is nothing in between).

How about old Doctor Who? I mean William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker era (1963-1981).

There is not such thing as enough The X-Files.  ;)
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

Law & Order!

(It's new AND old :D)

Don't know if any of these are what you are looking for but that is what I saw (or seeing) lately:

Foyle's War - one of the finest detective series ever, full stop.
Rome - was skeptical at first but ended hugely enjoying it, not for sticklers for historical accuracy.
Tudors - after calculated shocking beginning fast settles into tedium, barely made it through first season, don't intend to continue.
Yes, Minister - almost frightening how clever, and applicable. Not sure if it would travel across the pond well.
Gilmore Girls - some of the wittiest dialogue written for television. First season takes bit to set the right tone but onwards it's smooth sailing. One of my favorite longer (7 seasons, 150 episodes) series.

I second that. Vincent D'Onofrio was great and Jeff Goldblum is an excellent addition.

My current #1 favorite is Mad Men , then Monk (this is its last season); House;  and In Treatment (on HBO).

Heroes.
Best series that's been on for as long as I can think of.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer-That might be a nice ticket seeing Halloween is around the corner.

Law & Order-Never heard a bad thing about it.  May go to this after a non-police show.  Do you rec. Season 1?

Foyle's War-I saw a few episodes and enjoyed it a lot.  My wife and I are enjoying Inspector Lewis on Sunday's and we may watch the entire Foyle's

Monk-Always enjoy this one, but can only watch one now and then.  Four in a row on a Friday might be a bit much.

Heroes-Intrigued.  I know nothing about it.

THE WIRE.

Period.

(Oh, and DEADWOOD. Period.)

(Oh, and Battlestar Galactica - the new series.)

Mad Men is superb. I have no idea if it's the best series on TV or just the best on free TV. Probably it's one or the other.

All of these are very good except I don't know the last one, so it will have to be good without me.  :)

Lorelai and "Rory"... I love those girls.

Dexter is rather provocative:

Dexter is an American television drama series that airs on the premium channel Showtime. Set in Miami, the series centers on Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), a covert serial killer governed by a strict moral code who works for the Miami Metro Police Department as a blood spatter analyst.

I used to like Law and Order. I've been watching Boston Legal lately, which I find an entertaining substitute - Law & Order goes all issue-heavy a lot, while Boston Legal focuses on the characters more, and is also pretty funny when it wants to be.

I've actually never seen Criminal Intent! But I love Sam Waterston in the original, and Olivia (the lead female character) in Special Victims Unit.

OP: Have you seen this new series called Fringe? It's interesting and has a very healthy sense of humor.

I used to watch Gilmore Girls. Very witty dialogue and funny situations. But I was kind of disappointed with the finale...

True, there aren't many laughs on Law and Order. In fact, I can't remember any. Right now there's an episode on about a doctor who infected female patients with animal viruses.???

Full thumbs up yes on everything on the list but Gilmore Girls which I've never seen.  Especially Foyle's War and Tudors, could not get enough of either show.  I also currently like True Blood, which is actually much better than the series of novels it's based on. :o

The Wire is very, very bleak at times, but very good.  Deadwood was pretty darned good, and I only had cable to watch Battlestar Galactica, best sf show in recent years excepting perhaps Torchwood.  I also liked Carnivale even though it only lasted two seasons.

Since we seem to be on the same page looks like I have to watch Mad Men. 8)
