I found some images of the late stages of CDCDCD - extensive hair growth, manic movement, grunting and a tendency to stare at random objects are just a few of the symptoms that are common to this tragic and chronic disorder. These symptoms can escalate severely if the individual is out of shelf space or lack funds to add to their collection. Freud speculated that these symptoms are a subconscious effort of music making. These individuals often go bananas!

Surprise: somebody with more CDs than Harry
Unsurprise: it's Klaus Heymann.

Hmm, do you guys keep your cd collection as neat as this gentleman? Mine is quite bohemian (quite difficult for somebody else to find something) with piles wandering around into every possible nook and cranny in my shelves (yes, I ran out of space a year ago).  So - are you neat or bohemian or something in between (like chipmunk  >:D)?

My collection of CDs and LPs used to be neat and organized but once I ran out of shelf space, and out of space even to put new shelves, the unsorted and random piles of CDs began to proliferate in three other rooms, including my den (see last pic). As I type this message I'm surrounded by the dread piles  ;D  Left click to enlarge images.

I would love to say I'm neat and orderly, but except for having all my Haydn books and CD's in 2 bookcases by themselves, I am just a hopeless jumble. All of my shelves (and I have a fair amount) are stuffed, and there isn't a spot on top between the disks and the bottom of the next shelf that isn't also packed tight. It's depressing, really. :-\

You are my new hero.

At least until Harry posts his pictures.  :)

What surprises me about Sarge is that you can talk about a CD and he actually doesn't have it. Fairly often, too. Oh, he may have 7 or 8 other versions, but not that particular one. Amazing!    >:D

That's because, with the exceptions of Mahler and to a lesser extent Bruckner...and Ring cycles, I'm a generalist not a specialist. My musical interests are wide, very wide, encompassing popular, rock, jazz, country, folk, soul, funk, rap, world and classical from medieval to the 21st century. That dilutes the collection. I only have, for example, nine Beethoven sonatas sets compared to Todd's 80+ And I don't have anywhere near every Haydn recording that's ever been made...unlike you, Gurn  ;) This, of course, makes me very sad, with intense feelings of inadequacy which fuels my CDCDCD. But until I can afford to move into a larger home, or rent storage space from Harry, I'll have to be content with this pathetic collection.

Sorry to disappoint so dramatically. But I firmly believe even rap has its moments of genius.

Yes, I used to be a generalist too, until I realized I couldn't afford it! This would be because my sense of completism wouldn't leave me alone, and so I had to apply it to every composer I was interested in. You would be surprised how many that was!! Hell, I was surprised by how many that was!  :o

And so I was forced to narrow my scope. Although I must say this; if you have the complete works of Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert, this is still a pretty broad range of narrowness. :D :D

Hey!  I know that lady!  Wellllllll, not personally, but she's still one of my favorites! ;D I actually have the Walton/Stravinsky LP somewhere in storage.  I got it after having heard a TV broadcast of her performing the Walton concerto with Andre Previn and the Pittsburgh Symphony.  Strangely, I remember that in the broadcast, her tone was so powerful that at times SHE swamped the orchestra! :o ;D
