You're probably right, but I'm not sure that this isn't a "standards" problem. Just because someone doesn't moon over the heiliger Dankgesang or Coetzee's Disgrace doesn't mean that they're somehow intellectually deficient. If one is looking for a relationship to recreate the Algonquin Roundtable, then one is probably going to be disappointed.

I think nothing about that matter. I just threw such a twist to make the topic hotter. Though...actually...I do not agree with Greg, some of the girls I know here, at college in American suburbia, are quite smart and cunning. Not just in their studies but in real life. Though I have a friend (not gay) who is always complaining about "bitches" and that they are not smart, and it is better to hang out with guys because there is no "drama", etc. When I hear about "drama," my thoughts go to opera and leave him alone with his laments.

I think the problem is that 78 (or more? don't remember) % of the American population resides in Suburban Hell. It actually has its pluses for people who do not care at all and want just to work, get home, and relax; however, if you need theatres and museums, it becomes quite a problem. I think the best way to get out such (suburban) places is to study good 0:) and find a job somewhere in New York/Boston or learn a language and move to Europe: two hours and you just not have covered the distance between LA and San Diego, but traveled from Vienna to Milan, from Austria to Italy, from pompous imperialistic style to gothic and renaissance one, from snobbish and haughty the Viennese to the open-minded and smiling (and foxy) the Milanese.

I guess so. But now isn't the time to worry about stuff like that. This describes me nicely:

See, at my age, if you think about it, you need freedom more than anything else- especially if you're stuck in "Suburbian Hell". There's only work and school, every single day- maybe with a day off every month or two, and 5 days to relax from Winter Break.

Other guys I know have gotten married (they're my age), and I just wonder if they'd eventually feel frustrated that they didn't take full advantage of their freedom while they had the chance- and some could've, but were smart enough to tell the girl no, when the girl says she wants to live a boring lifestyle in some unknown stupid town with the guy.

So it's best not to take anything serious until you get a bit older, at least until you get the desire to explore and achieve things out of your system. Heck, if I felt like it, I'd go live in Japan for a year or two.....

Exactly the problem. People here don't care at all about anything outside of their deed-restricted community. The same is, of course, roughly true for city dwellers, but at least the higher concentration of people makes it more likely one will find someone on their wavelength.

As for me, I'm getting out as soon as I can, and I'm not going to let mediocre community college classes delay me. A friend of mine said to me, "safety is an illusion and one can find it just about anywhere."

Well, maybe I put it the wrong way. One of my friends is really dumb sometimes- we all think she smokes weed more than she says. Extremely random and awful with numbers.... i could go on, but I'll spare the details.
And the one I mentioned in another thread is just, well, not specifically "dumb", but not on the same wavelength as me, although it's fun messing with her, cuz of it.... like if she forgets to hold the door open for me and apologizes, I make sure to slam it in her face when we're both on the way out. But it ends up being funny, you know?
