     Problem solved, I think.

What the hell is wrong with having the stupid recycle bin on your precious desktop when people are starving somewhere?

If I could I'd remove the recycle bin too :'(

Do you mean, like this? I don't know why I insist myself on having the 'other' Firefox icon over there; but the document will vanish once I'm done reading it. (Oh, and I can right-click to empty.  >:D )

It's kind of frustrating that MS are still such control freaks that they won't allow you to pick what you have on right side of the menu (where I would like such an essential thing). I can understand idiot-proof modes, but at least give people who know what they want the means to do it, even if it involves consulting "experts" on tech forums.

Dual boot (I presume you're a gamer?) and move over to Linux. 0:)

What's on my desktop? Almost nothing, I'd say. ;D

Oh, and in case I need something else, the panel at the top comes in handy.

Superb!  8)
What theme are you using for the icons? And is there a link for the wallpaper?

Thanks. :) The icon set, from which I have since moved on, as you can see from the latest screenshot, is called Azenis Icons. As for the wallpaper, it is a picture of a crescent Earth as seen by Rosetta spacecraft, during its last flyby of the planet.

I have space pics on my desktop mostly all the time.
About the only thing interesting at the moment is whats playing in media player.  But I keep messing with things, next time I do, another desktop will appear here.

From a scan of the rear booklet cover of this CD:

I have that set too, Lethe. Anyway, that's some cool looking wallpaper!

This right now:

I'll give you a hint: the writing at the top reads "Allegro ma non troppo, un poco maestoso"

I dunno.  Beethoven?

Meanwhile, as you can see I am a skype user, anyone can call me!

The score is sufficiently empty for the 9th :)

Yeah, that's the front page of Beethoven's own score of the 9th, written out in his own horrible handwriting. Can you imagine being a copyist who was supposed to figure that out and make something of it?  The Berlin museum where it resides has scanned it and released as a PDF. It is enjoyable to look at, but I could never follow it! :o

Coolest-looking desktop on here (factoring in the sidebar). Just if it didn't have those couple of icons cluttering it up...

[Those sidebars, a more functional version, I'd guess] Coming in April, to an Ubuntu desktop near you.

I can't even tell how it works from there. If it's better than mine, I'd be surprised.

YouTube has a bunch of demo videos. Many of them are a few months old. It was first used in their Netbook edition of the OS and only now are they bringing it to the Desktop, so it's not quite complete yet; in fact, features are being added and the whole interface is being tweaked as we speak. The other big new (as in unconventional) and upcoming "desktop" is GNOME 3 (aka Shell), which Ubuntu have snubbed by doing the whole GUI revamp themselves.

It looks cool with the big icons, but if you can't put a bunch of shortcuts on there and have to put them on the desktop, that sucks.
