You may change your vote though. :)  I only know the operas Idomeneo on, but offer all choices for completists and eccentrics. :D

Let me know if there any omissions early on, so I can change them without messing up the results.  Any typos, you can let me know anytime... I'm guilty of using wikipedia.

Idomeneo was the first opera that I ever watched, and I like it... but my favorite is either The Magic Flute or Figaro.  I think the Magic Flute.

Florestan

Hey, it was about overtures, not whole operas! You cheater!  ;D

Haha let's really put 'em to the test! ;D  Ray will now be conflicted. :D

The Figaro overture is probably one of the great miniature pieces ever. So even if you confine to overtures, it is no contest, in MY estimation. :)

Fair enough, this is the hardest poll I could think of.  How could you really prefer one over the rest?  I don't know.  But it would be interesting if gmg forumites did actually have a consensus for favorite.

Oh, the madness! I can feel it a-coming!

I voted for Zauberflöte, just nosing out Le nozze di Figaro . . . felt that the overall arc was just a notch ahead.

Cosi, Don and Flute are my favorites, with the Flute getting my vote.

I'm tempted to read that as Cosi Don Fluté.

Don Giovanni

Figaro is a close second.

Florestan

Just for the fun of it...

Overture: Don Giovanni

Whole opera: Le nozze di Figaro

Didn't P.D.Q. Bach compose that?

Maybe La Nozze Don Fluté

Still waiting for the first vote for Die Schuldigkeit des ersten Gebots...

Of the early operas, I really like Il Re Pastore!

You know I thought that Gurn would vote that way! ;D  Because you know him... ;)  I haven't heard it, I guess I should see if netflix has it...

Maybe La Nozze Don Fluté

Don Giovanni certainly knew how to play his Magic Fluté. Or so they claim.

Edit: Oh, I voted Le Nozze, though, and not ONLY because of the overture.  :)

Wow, you have been thorough in your list!  8)

If it has to be only one, my vote goes to Die Zauberflöte; although everything from Idomeneo onwards is a favourite.
