Has anyone seen the '3 Classic Album' series from DG? No doubt some won't need these but I am considering buying the one below:   (They are basically 3 CD's for the price of one)

Don't know the performances, but be aware that the CDs in this series are in flimsy cardboard digipacks housed together with a slipcover. I personally thought they looked terrible, which would be enough for me not to pick any of these releases up. But if you don't mind this, it's a good bargain, I suppose. ;)

Thanks for that info, betterthanfine. I was not aware of that.  :-\

I have this issue with a recent Hillary Hahn set I purchased. They just are a bit more sensitive, compared to the regular plastic cases or boxes. In a sense not very different from the numerous issues in the boxes coming out nowadays. So personally I do not mind considering the price. One could always transfer them to plastic cases in case that is important.    ::)

I prefer thin packaging with cardboard sleeves.

I have his Bruckner cycle, and it is my favorite modern cycle.  Skrowaczeski and Jochum introduced me to Bruckner.  He is a pretty awesome conductor of Bruckner imo.

His Beethoven is cracklin' too - in fact his Beethoven First is one of my 2-3 favorites of that symphony. I remember really digging the Fourth. I am seriously considering buying that box.

You may want to consider buying it from L'abeille musique (especially when they have their next sale) as it is a pretty good price. The issue may be shipping.

Thanks for the feedback on the Skrowaczewski box. I will ponder it further, but it seems like you guys pretty much are quite enthusiastic about it. I guess it comes down to how many cycles of the core repertoire one is willing to hold on to.   ???

I have a weak spot for Edwin Fischer's performances. Does anybody have this box? It seems like ArkivMusic issues CDRs of the set (which makes me wary). Has anybody had any bad experience with their CDRs?

Catch-all So-so. Don't see the appeal, but have many if not most of the individual releases. If you really like that music, yet don't have any performances of it, then I could see it. Or as a primer in Americana. But otherwise...

I have most of the interesting stuff, but if you don't it looks like a good use of $31.

Yes, I do not have much of 20th century music so I see it more as a sample to open doors to different composers....
