Archaic Torso of Apollo

Considering a couple of harpsichord discs:

Egarr plays Purcell

Hantai plays Scarlatti

I have to say, that melon looks rather tasty.
formerly VELIMIR (before that, Spitvalve)

Not really considering the Bacewicz - it's a must-buy. The linear notes Hyperion have kindly made available on Stenhammer's second concerto make fascinating reading.

This month's releases make me feel positive about the future of these small labels. Really interesting repertoire (glad to see that they are extending their Romantic PC series into the 20th century a bit more), and even throwing in a new Messiah (2 for 1 price) and Takács (Schumann) recording.

Thanks for posting this!  I have a few of these pieces on other recordings which are probably not nearly as good, soundwise, as this one.  (I notice Tony Faulkner was the engineer here.)  I'll probably try to get this very soon.

Now if only ensembles could be persuaded to do her music on concerts... 8)

MusicWeb has a great comprehensive review, though they leave a few notable offerings off the list, notably the Eroicas on Harmonia Mundia and the I-forget-whos (Henschel?) on Arte Nova.

Brian & Jens - thanks for the links - seems to be plenty, if not TOO MUCH, to consider and choose!  :o

Well, I happened to like the Emerson SQ in these works, since these 'lists' seem to be on the opposite ends of a see-saw -  ;) ;D  Still did not see another review of the NCA recording that I posted earlier - but, definitely would like another -  :)

And after this, I suggest you get his 6 SQ.

If you love Scandinavian Romanticism, this is a must.

Is Seta Tanyel any good in this one, how does she compare with Derwinger (No.1) and Ortiz (No.2) on BIS? I have little confidence in her, as her take of Scharwenka's piano concertos nos. 2 & 3 on the same series proved quite the dud; positively mediocre, if not worse. Also, is this a licensed or an original recording?

At least some of the Scharwenkas were licenced, but this is new. Given there there must be at least 10 years between the recordings, she should hopefully have improved, although I must admit I didn't hear much wrong with the Scharwenka recordings.

Seta Tanyel's work in the solo Moszkowski series is excellent.

This is far and away my favorite Vespers recording... and has remained atop my list since it first came out.

Hi, Bill - I bought it. Thanks so much. I thought you meant the Harmonia Mundi version at first.

Did my PM get to you here?

Thanks again.

How is this?

What my little ears tell me (upon first, casual listen): It's very fine, but also in the "that's nice" category. Know what I mean?

I do. Not every rendition can be stellar, can it?
