Ok, and which work on the set refers to this?

Why do you think it would be connected to a specific work?

Shouldn't it be? Otherwise the cover art is rather pointless (not that we don't have plenty of those around).

No. My question was why should it be connected to a specific work. I wasn't suggesting it shouldn't be connected to the music on the disc in any way shape or form.

That's a stretch. But if witches, the sea, and paganism is what the cover art is referring to then I guess it made its point. Hyperion does make some nice cover arts, much more imaginative than some others where you see some old geezer of a conductor (or not) on the front. Stuff like this make you scratch your head:

Why?
It's the conductor of the disc in a pose familiar from several paintings/sketches of the composer, apparently seeking "Die Ehre Gottes in der Natur" in the Austrian countryside.

As for the Bantock, I have no problems making connections of a painting of naked nymphs and a shipwreck with "Hebridean Symphony", "Pagan symphony", "The Sea reivers". It's not immediate, but not remote either.

I took the image to refer to Harnoncourt's passing, since he is seen only from the back.

Exactly. I don't even know any of the music, but it wasn't hard to look at the titles of the works and envisage a connection to the subject matter and style of the cover art.

Shouldn't he have bare feet then? ;)
It could be. But there are several drawings of Beethoven in a similar coat, hands behind his back, walking, apparently in deep thought.

You may well both be right.

Beethoven on ice.

And yes, that cover is very apt - the solitary wanderer in nature was a very fashionable theme in German art in Beethoven's time, and it's well documented that he had his fair share of walks.

I found Lindberg rather cool and straight laced. Nigel North suits me much better:

Though Paul O'dette seems excellent as well, but (as a matter of personal taste) I would prefer either over Lindberg...
