What composer do you prefer?

This is such a difficult choice because I really like both composer's music, but I guess if I was cornered I'd probably say Mahler, but I regret this choice because there is so much music by R. Strauss that I simply adore. Decisions, decisions....I'll have to think about this one.

Ah yes or we could call him The Husband Of Domestic Affairs. :D

The Don of music.

The Don of music.

Yes, that's it! He's the Don. We will no longer refer to his real name. We'll just say the Don and people better know who we're talking about or I'll just have to hurl a Straussian bomb their way! :)

Bogey

Strauss....Karajan style. ;)

There are many more I still need to get under his baton...including some Johann.

One of the finest, if not the finest, performance of Alpensinfonie available.

Let's just lock this one down, MI and make it a Mahler-free zone....the first thread to ever dare to do so on this board. ;D

I finally voted and I voted for Strauss. There's just so much variety in his music and he composed in so many different genres that there's something for everyone I think.

Mahler for me.  I have an emotional connection with his music, and Strauss leaves me cold.

Curiously (because the answer would have been otherwise for most of my listening life) I must say: Mahler.

Though I've rather "re-warmed" to R. Strauss, too.

I love so much of Strauss' music. He is one of my favorites. BUT, for my taste he is miled below Mahler, like he is miles below Bach.

Excellent challenge.....I absolutely love both Mahler and Strauss, they were geniuses; their music deeply touches me, so thrilling, haunting and passionate, incredibly beautiful! ;D
Though, I say Mahler.
