So I was just walking down the street one afternoon...

My oldest friend sent me the link a few days ago. It is absolutely thrilling.

Sarge
the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

Now that was a nice way to begin the day.  8)

And on this side of the world, a return to normalcy (ecstasy?) after a stupid day. Thank you so much for posting it, Gurn... sort of what I needed at the mo. :)

And the well done video nicely captures varied expressions and reactions.

You're welcome, Navneeth. I, too, was very pleased when someone linked me to it. Hopefully it is a day brightener for many. :)

I agree - the filming was terrific. (So much so, that at first I thought it was perhaps a Honda Accord commercial... ;D)

These classical flashmobs are superb, and as people so rightly say uplifting.
Don't suppose members would care to highlight any more they find popping up on You Tube ? Brighten all our days a little !

I think we should ask you that! These classical flashmobs...? ;)

A year or two ago I'd come across a video of an "operamob" in a crowded marketplace, somewhere in the US, I think (Philadelphia?). I'll try to find that.

Fair comment - have seen a few on YT; started with a Hallelujah Chorus in a US shopping mall...never even heard the term 'flash mob' before that ! But it was enough to move to tears..& I'm not an emotional fellow.
The sheer delight on people's faces, particularly the kids, for whom this may be a memory stirring them to who knows what, is the key to their genius as videos.

Afraid  I'd have no idea how to transfer a clip to this thread, though - struggle to manage a bit of typing !

I agree very much with that.

If it's a clip on YouTube (or a similar video-hosting site), simply copy the URL from the address bar of your web-browser and paste it in your post, like Gurn has done in his.

Here's the links to a couple of nice ones. Hope they work for you !

Thanks.

And I was right about the one I'd seen earlier; it was indeed the Philly Opera.

It's always a good thing to see music bring people together. As much as all of us may argue with each other about that composer or this recording, at the end of the day, we're all human and we know the power this music has over people.

Absolutely !
Much as I love these forums & all I've learned from them, it's easy to lose track of the fact that for all but a few (of us ?!) who've become a bit 'picky', 99.9% of folk don't care whether it's the LSO or their local high school band...if it's lovely uplifting music, they'll listen !

As listeners mature, we're all bound to get a bit picky. We just can't help that. :) But, we all love this music or we wouldn't be here and that's what matters in the end. Not how many recordings we just bought or how many times you've seen the Royal Concertgebouw, but how this music touches us and how there's nothing like it in the world.

In a similar vein to the ones above. Brownie points for guessing "the concept" before the 30-second mark.
