While doing their regular security controls, the police found a bag containing about 240,000 USD in the private bathroom of my country's ministre of Economy, Felisa Miceli.

On june 5th, at 6am, the Brigade of Explosives found a bag with U$S 140,000, €50,000 and 100,000 pesos (the local currency: 1 USD = 1 peso). The police immediately elaborated a Notary Act, describing what they had found, but... the act misteriously disappeared.

Not only the act disappeared, but then the information changed; other minister said there were not euros in the bag. And now they recognise it only contained 100,000 pesos and 30,000 USD.
Other strange thing is that those 100,000 are all together in one pack, sealed and numbered by the Central Bank of the Argentinian Republic (BCRA), like the regular money they emit.

As the pack has a number ID it was traced, and apparently was given by the BCRA to a commercial bank.

When interrogated, the Minister said that was money she borrowed from her brother as she was about to make an inmobiliary purchase. Apparently her brother seems to have sealed packs of money, like those from primary monetary emission.

Senators from the opposition tried to interrogate further the minister, but the officialism won't let them.

We have laws that dictate any financial transaction above 1,000 pesos should be done through banks. So she was also braking the law.

But she has support from the president and the chief of ministers, so nobody can touch her.

My country sucks ass.

But on the bright side ......... you're not stuck with George W. Bush (as we are) ...........

Does Argentina produce good vacuum-cleaners?

Get out! You voted for the cretin, you can keep him. Or have him assassinated. I vote for that.

OK Guys, let's be positive!  Out shopping @ Costco today & brought home several South American wines, i.e. either from Argentina or Chile; tonight I tasted the most recent Norton '05 Malbec Reserva - I have the '04 vintage in my basement - this one is just great; so, I HOPE that this country (and the Mendoza Vly) continues to offer the rest of the world this under-appreciated grape, MALBEC! Hey, I have very simple needs (most of the time -  ;)) -  ;D

If everyone that disliked Bush simply left the country, we'd have an enormous "brain drain" — the country would plummet even further into the depths of ignorance.

Where were these 'brains' on polling day?

Our gross product grows at .09. But as there's not enough investment in infrastructure the gas and electricity industries can use is limited by the government. So working shifts are rescheduled or eliminated and guess what, production and employment falls.

When asked about this, the president said we should blame the Winter, who's unexpected low temperatures make the available oil insufficient to satisfy both industrial and family consumption.
The particular problem with the winter being involved in this is that they can not claim there is a conspiracy trying to bring them down. That's what they always do.
The news recently published that Romina Picolotti, secretary of Enviroment, has given public jobs to about 250 people, most of them are her relatives. And what did the government's spokesperson had to say? It's a media conspiracy, trying to affect Mrs Picolotti reputation.

**

Mr. Winter recently showed his evil power, with an unusal snowing over the whole country past weekend.

As the power crisis makes more evident, the official answers and strategic resolutions are this:
- Chief of ministers, Anibal Fernandez, recently appeared on the news asking citizens to wear more clothes and use less stoves.
- He also said that if we close the doors of unused rooms we can save gas, having less space to be heated.

What a great political mastermind this he is.

I agree about the wine; a country that can make good wine can't possibly suck completely.  (And Argentina has some great natural areas that I would love to see some day.)  Corruption is rife just about everywhere; Argentina certainly isn't alone in that.  We've had our share right here in the United States.  Salt Lake County has had a long and illustrious history of scandals, although (thankfully) the current mayor is having some success at cleaning it up.

If it doesn't involve nudity or swearing, then probably not.
