Harpsichord Sonatas [Malcolm]

A selection of Harpsichord Sonatas played on an interesting sounding instrument; unfortunately there is no information on the provenance of the instrument in the LP liner notes.

Now this is a rare gem, I had completely forgotten this recording was in the BBC MM cover disc collection.
Great fun sifting through boxes of the BBC discs (boringly I have them all from issue one).

Louis Andriessen, De Snelheid - ASKO Ensemble, Oliver Knussen.

(The John Adams material I can take or leave)

Still plugging away at this one.  No surprise – it's over 10 hours long.

Luckily, it's quite good.  Better than the one Carissimi disc I have from Les Voix Baroques on Atma IMHO.  It has a lighter, more open, even intimate sound.  Recommended.

Carissimi: Complete Oratorios
Ensemble Seicentonovecento, Flavio Colusso
Brilliant

PS - The guy on the cover has the posture and expression I get when I find out I have to listen to 10+ hours of music from a single composer.

Terribly sorry to hear this.  I wish you strength in this difficult time.

Mozart: Symphony Concertante K. 424 [Suk/Skampa/Redel]

Played and paced very well by all concerned in a wonderfully "Mozartian" sounding performance.

Continuing listening to Bach's cantatas. Next stop: BWV 51. Uneven, but ultimately rewarding experience, this journey has been so far.

No.32. Excellent playing and good sound. (It varies from decent to excellent since all are live performances in different venues.)

The instrument is made by either Goff or Goble - in both cases a big revival instrument of the Pleyel kind.

This is a recording of the 6th partita by Nicholas Parle which has very much grown on me - I've been listening to it a lot over the past week. At first when I heard it I rejected it for a sort of rigidity I thought I heard, but slowly I've seen that it is rather expressive without being too flamboyant. On the contrary, his penchant for slow tempos makes him sound quite reflective.

Prayers and Best Wishes to you at this difficult time!

I recall playing Mahler's Tenth Symphony not too long after my father's death: what a catharsis that was!
