Good stuff, Nik.

Absolutely. And amongst the myriad charms there are such mood swings - yet they transition from one to another delightfully. Also, this week I've a concert featuring his Symphony No.6 to attend. :)

My first sip of the Langaard coolaid!

Yeah, good stuff indeed. Thanks for suggesting it.
"You overestimate my power of attraction," he told her. "No, I don't," she replied sharply, "and neither do you".

Indeed. Langgaard's 6th may very well be my favorite of all his symphonies. Who's the conductor?

Thread duty -

Listening to An Outdoor Overture. Goodness gracious me, I just love 'Populist' period Copland so much! But, really, I love all periods of Copland.

Giuliani: Guitar Concerto No. 1 [Pepe Romero]....

A spirited, lively performance which does great justice to the music.

Fresh from the mailbox:

Listening to Saint-Saen's Symphony No. 3 in C minor, Op. 78, "Organ". Sounds promising so far. This is one of those works I don't want to 'wear out,' because it's so popular, but I find it to be absolutely infectious and it never fails to put a smile on my face. Looking forward to the rest of this particular program as well: Saint-Saens' Carnival of the Animals and Poulenc's Les Animaux models.

I've been carrying this back and forth to the office and back for 3-4 days, and soon I am actually going to listen to it.  The Подблюдные are a great favorite of mine, I love the alternate version with the horns.  But honestly all I have as yet listened to on this disc is the pianola original of Madrid (which, to be sure, is great fun).

The SS3 is definitely one of those pieces that, when people ask how can I spend so much time and attention on music, I point them at.

I have this one. It features a big, reverberant acoustic that adds to the grandeur of the symphony. :)
