Fafner

Your perseverance and honesty are exemplary. The music itself is their reward. Congratulations!

Thanks!

Yeah, they make a beautiful noise. Listening their Brahms op.8 and 87 Trios now.

As I said a gorgeous disc in all aspects. And an object lesson in how a cover should look.

Forget about that - I mainly wanted to draw attention to the fabulous cover and if possible to get more people interested in this disc and this promising series  (Linn in general is extremely good at covers and packaging). Now did you like it as much as we did?

Crisp playing. Authentic instruments add a different dimension to the music. The emotions come over in a different way, clearly articulated.

Thanks. I did a comparative listening of Hob XV: 28: BAT vs Van Swieten Trio: I prefer the former by a wide margin. The fake pizzicato at the very beginning is so perfectly done by Pressler that it really fooled me. The Allegretto is played too fast by VST and as a result the contrasting effect is weakened. The BAT are much more poetic in their take.

Different strokes for different folks.  :D

If you have not already done so, you might wish to hear the Trio Eisenstadt play these works.

Thanks for the rec.

Fantasy in D minor KV 397 (ditto)
Sonata in A major KV 331 (containing perhaps the finest set of variations ever composed)

Spellbounding slow movement.

Sooner or later I'll have to buy the Buchbinder set. The sooner, the better.
