That, and touting a piece composed in 1974 as 21st-century music ::)

You can't expect everyone to use the same calendar, can you?

Now:
Brian Jolly Miller Overture!

Oh, I need to look through James' posts to find this...on second thought, I'll just take your word for it. ;) ;D

The melodies were originally composed in 1974 for music boxes, but these works for orchestra were composed in 2004 & 2007. In fact, the second set of orchestral works from 2007 were the ones he finished on the night prior to his death.

And I'm sure they display what a brilliant mind he had or so you say. ::)

So far so good.  But mind you,  I have a much better time with early Arnie than I do with later Arnie.  The true test will come on the next CD, with SQs 3 and 4.

Pretty spiritual listening, this New Year's Day. After my own manner of 'spiritual', of course, and with a focus on the Great Big Rubinstein Box.

Vaughan Williams: Tallis Fantasia. City of London Sinfonia; Barbirolli
Schubert: Sonata D960. Arthur Rubinstein
Schumann: Kreisleriana, Vogel als Prophet, Arabeske. Arthur Rubinstein
Schubert: Piano Trio No 1. Rubinstein, Szeryng, Fournier
Schumann: Piano Quintet. Rubinstein, Guarneri Quartet

Here is the full press release with comments from Ms. Falletta. Looks like it was recorded in September and will be released, I'd guess, sometime in the summer or fall. I will certainly have my ears at the ready!

It really sounds good, I will certainly put this on my to order list as soon as it is released. Thank you for the link.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.
