Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

When Mirror Image sang his praises I paid no attention, now that he trashes him I discovered some fantastic music. Keep them coming, John! Who's the next you'll be spitting on? Koechlin, maybe?  ;D

No, I think Koechlin is a far better composer than Delius IMO. Just his handling of larger forms puts Delius to shame. Glad you enjoy the music? ???

Listening to Sculthorpe's Music For Federation. A great work and performance.

the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

Is there some context in there to explain why he would write a work with such a title? Seems rather odd. Federation occurred in 1901.

EDIT: Never mind, I found info. He decided to omit the boring words "centenary of"!

But...?  Not a very persuasive one?

Not for the first two sonatas in the set.  A bit rushed, without either great lyricism or rhythmic snap or a lot of intensity.  Schubert's sonatas start getting interest at D664, and I haven't heard that yet.

Don't tell me Bernard Michael O'Hanlon's Amazon.com asylum-scribblings were accurate for once.

Hi Brian - LOL!   :D  The other day, I was perusing the Haydn reviews on Amazon, specifically w/ the Q. Festetics and found one of his ramblings HERE - just listened to that Op. 17 set yesterday and debating on adding a more positive response - Dave :)

Absolutely outstanding, Harry:) It made me very happy too.  One of the best new discoveries for me in that wonderful ballet box set were the Delibes' ballets.  :)

Shostakovich - String Quartet No.13 in B flat minor.

Which I think someone else was coincidentally listening to the other day. It's been on my list for a couple of weeks. A haunting work.

I don't know who that is.
A prolific Amazon reviewer with a gift for acid put-downs but also some clear signs of insanity. He produced the rare laugh ("Alfred Brendel is the Toyota Corolla of his profession") and the slightly less rare flight of disturbing fantasy. I apologize for any memory cells you may lose knowing this man's name.

Since you asked about Hurwitz, I would say that O'Hanlon is neither better or worse; he is simply more. He is more Hurwitz than Hurwitz. He is the IMAX version.

At least Hurwitz has his own website, I guess.  I do not read Amazon reviews, at least as it pertains to recordings, though I do tend to notice the aggregate star ratings and star distributions - both of which I then promptly ignore.
