I'm going to a piano recital this Saturday, which will feature this lineup:

CHOPIN:Nocturne in E flat, Op. 55 No. 2
CHOPIN:Nocturne in B, Op. 62 No. 1
CHOPIN:Allegro de concert
CHOPIN:Andante spianato et Grande Polonaise brillante Op.22
LISZT:Sonetto 104 del Petrarca
LISZT:Mephisto Waltz No. 1
LISZT:Hexameron

I'm not that familiar with any of these, so this is what I am playing, from Freire, Bolet, Howard, and one or two others.
It's all good...

Fahmi Alqhai and Alberto Martinez Molina play Forqueray.

Attention everyone. This is the first Forqueray recording which has ever made me think "hmmm, Forqueray wrote some pretty cool music." There's a lot to explore from here - my genius-radar is telling me that the musicians who are playing on this CD are poets, creative types. On spotify, so I'd be interested to hear comments from other listeners.

Do you find Blandine Rannou's Forqueray un-cool? ;) But REALLY cool I find Leonhardt's Forqueray CD "The Bliss and Pain of Baroque".

I'm listening to a track now, beautiful! Will look into it further.

I'm quite excited.  There is only one "name" performer here a year, so it is a big deal.

Time to revisit this favourite disc.

Yeah, well, "name" may be a bit of a stretch, but it's Ingolf Wunder.  He was a hit at the last Chopin Competition (whatever it's called), and got picked up by DG.  I've only seen 3 live music events in a the last 3 years, so it could be anybody, really, and I would be happy.

Not a stretch at all, I think. But then again, the biggest 'names' (of pianists) I've seen live are Olli Mustonen, Paavali Jumppanen and Bernd Glemser (and some others I forget..)

I regret to say that many of the pieces which I thought were cool Forqueray were actually by Marais. Badly tagged on spotify.

Mozart on modern instruments and big band, that actually convinced me. Gifted by a GMG member. :)

Check out Boehm's wartime Mozart recordings: Symphony no. 41 and Eine Kleine Nacht Musik. Solid gold!

Dove into the Reiner/Strauss box with Don Juan, Domestica, and Also sprach Zarathustra. All later recordings with the Chicago SO. Don't think I need to listen to Domestica again anytime soon, just not a work that interests me. The Don Juan is a little too inflexible - slow bits come across speedy. The Zarathustra is glorious.

Some French piano music, by one of those composers who somehow never made it to the the "A-list":

Maurice Emmanuel: Sonatine No. 6, "alla francese" - Peter Jacobs (piano)

I've always enjoyed this piece when I've listened to it (as well as its orchestral incarnation as a suite)... :)

I have an EClassical question. Sorry if it's the wrong thread, but not sure which one would be appropriate and more users glance here anyway...

If I were to buy individual flac tracks from an album would the tracks have any space in between each other? Or would there be an seamless transition from one track to the next. iTunes will offer no space in between tracks but Amazon.com always has a split second of space, which for a classical piece that contains connected movements this becomes practically unlistenable.
Thank you in advance!  ;D

I think it depends on how the label originally edited the tracks. Usually each media player offers different settings too - like MediaMonkey does seamless transitions great for all my MP3s, FLACs, etc., but on the other hand, MediaMonkey absolutely butchers transitions when I'm playing a CD.
