Sure hope he pays me a visit this year.  Santa, not Fry (1813-1864) though he'd be welcome too.

Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

Yes. 90 CDs - a lot of them quite unusual. Some of film music, some of them with non-classical performers. James Taylor (one of my favorites) participates on 2 of the CDs.

I can sympathize with Paderewski's dictum: "the greatest work of genius ever achieved by any artist in any field of human endeavour"  :) :) :) :)

Just one thing . . .

What does the phrase in any field of human endeavour add to that statement, I wonder?

I try and stay away from such sets ... not sure about their origins and sonic quality.

Good advice.  Until a label that focuses on or dabbles in historical recordings shows their "direction" for how they remaster the prime source, then I feel it is better to wait.  Pearl, Naxos, M&A are three I enjoy because I know what to expect and I prefer their sound.  There are others as well.  However, with unknown labels, unless they are extremely cheap, I stay clear of.
There will never be another era like the Golden Age of Hollywood.  We didn't know how to blow up buildings then so we had no choice but to tell great stories with great characters.-Ben Mankiewicz

After having explored this year five or six disks of Janáček's piano music, this is probably my favorite.  :)

That it might not exceed e.g. the pyramids or those weird shapes in corn fields?  0:)

:P Absolutely. Just because Messiaen isn't a favorite of mine, doesn't necessarily mean I don't want to know more about his music and get opinions of it.

Quote from: EigenUser on December 03, 2014, 01:37:07 AMI'm happy about your one-night-stand with Messiaen's music. Otherwise, I wouldn't know about the $80 box set. Might add to my Christmas list.

You make it sound so sleazy. ;D
