If I lived there my music would be not wildly melancholy but utterly depressed and depressing.  ;D

There are less gloomy views:

Kitschy and bombastic. Never heard his music but that gives me an idea about it. ;D

Ole Bull (born near Bergen) was a rock star of nearly Lisztian proportions, travelled the world, seduced women by the score (no girl problems there) and when he finally settled, he built that house, filled with paraphernalia from all over the world. Open to visitors (single house on a quite large island, there's a boat connection) and well worth it, used for chamber concerts during the Bergen Festival.

Sort of a Norwegian Paganini, right?  :D

First listen to this set:

A tale of two pianists? The first movement of Sonata No. 2 was so bad - random tempo changes, clattering ugly rushed passages - that I gave up on the performance, but the 24 Preludes and Etudes Op. 25 are totally spectacular, as insightful and incisive and interesting as any I've ever heard. Totally outstanding.

Maybe I should give the rest of the sonata a try. OR ignore it, keeping my respect for Sokolov intact? Which say you, reader?!

Too much respect, and you don't get into her pants. Just saying.

The two first discs didn't impress me too much, but I've learnt to shut up about music I don't know after one playing. There I've said it.
