I know I said I ordered this one a few weeks ago but I cancelled that order.
Anyway, the set is available now for about half the price of the pre-order so I decided to get it after all:

Two purchases yesterday (deeply discounted at La Boite à Musique in Brussels), which have permitted me to correct two scandalous absences in my collection:

I already owned the third and fourth concertos with the same team, but wanted to hear their Emperor, as both Pollini and Böhm are in top positions of my peronal pantheon of favourite musicians ever..

I've owned for years the Juilliard's album of SQs 1 through 4 in its previous incarnation (along with the Duo for violin and piano), but not the more recent recording of the Fifth string quartet. Actually, I don't know this late work at all, so I'm quite eager about this first listen  :)

Pounds the table! Great choice, Peter. Schonwandt's symphony cycle and that Dausgaard disc of misc. orchestral works are top-drawer. Too bad Schonwandt didn't conduct the concerti for Dacapo as that would have been a nice inclusion (he did record them for Chandos however). Happy listening!

Sally Whitwell, I was flying

A bit of context: Whitwell has previously done recordings of the piano music of composers such as Glass and Nyman, and won awards here for them. This CD is of her own compositions, with a mix of instrumental, vocal and choral pieces.

Full disclosure, I know her from competing against her in piano eisteddfods and other competitions a great many years ago. But I'm in no way playing favourites when I say I like her own compositions a great deal more than those of Glass or Nyman.

Nobody has to apologise for using their brain.

Most interesting . . . where is the recording available?

The mp3s are on Amazon USA and I would guess on iTunes everywhere (EDIT: Yes, it is on iTunes USA). For a physical disc, I'm not sure about anywhere outside Australia (it's on the ABC Classics label). Only released a couple of weeks ago.

I did notice that Amazon has her previous recordings as well.

Found it here, thanks!  Will check it out.  Fair disclosure:  I'm not much of a fan of either Glass or Nyman.

Neither am I! I had to confess this to Ms Whitwell, which was awkward given that not only does she love Mr Glass' music, but knows him.

And that was before I'd had a chance to hear her own compositions.

Very nice, Peter. Suk is a great composer. This your first exposure to his music?
