A very belated purchase: Poulenc's opera Dialogues des Carmélites. My first  :o  ever recording of the work, with Crespin, Duval, Gorr: the classic EMI recording.

A single disc of highlights from R. Strauss' Rosenkavalier under Silvio Varviso. Wiener Philharmoniker, Régine Crespin (Marschallin), Elisabeth Söderström (Octavian) and Hilde Güeden (Sophie). I could not reference a complete recording. Was it recorded in full, or just these highlights ?

Mostly for Schoenberg's Verklärte Nacht - the rest is a bonus!

Do you own this disc, Peter?

It receives my highest recommendation and is my favorite Schoenberg recording. It doesn't get much better than this IMHO.

Edit: I see you answered my question in the 'Listening' thread. ;)

I have that disc... the orchestral version of Transfigured Night annoys me a bit on principle*, and my last recollection of Pelleas is that it's too long for its own good!

* And also because I've heard the original version live once, and it was magnificent, and I want to know why the sextet isn't more widely available on disc, dammit!!

Oh, strong agreement here!  Love the original sextet.  (Not that I mind the string orchestra arrangement overmuch  8) )

Quick mental inventory of my holdings suggests I have roughly 2 recordings of the sextet version for every 1 of the orchestral.  Favorite of the sextet versions is Artemis Quartet, but not by much.  There seem to have been a few new recordings in the last two or three years.

ETA...of course,  I should mention Janine Jensen and family's recording!

I have this one, too. I agree it's wonderful.

In this way he had a chance to have the rhythm drilled into him. And this was the beginning of a musical inclination in his descendants. JS Bach
