Where did you buy it? I haven't find it in the usual online stores...

I cannot sample that piece on YT now (maybe later in the evening) but from her wiki page she looks very intriguing indeed, and reminds me a bit of Demetrio Stratos https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demetrio_Stratos.
But probably it's something completely different...

There is a link on the youtube page of this work in the description under the video to a place where you can purchase the recording.  :)

Hamilto Harty: String Quartets/Piano Quintet....

When I saw this one posted relatively recently I put it on the List immediately. It has now arrived.

Interesting, and very likely an impressive disc - I have often wondered why Harty releases have been so focused on the (fine) orchestral works, cf. the Chandos and Naxos releases.

I have just finished listening to the CD above and you were correct on both points. The first string quartet was an early work but interesting. The second string quartet was much more impressive. However, the real jewel here was the piano quintet.

I saw you post it on the new realeases thead - looks enticing! :)

But of course, you know me, I'm going to wonder whether full notes and texts are provided...

Please keep me posted. :)

The new erato

Probably no texts, but quite a lot of instrumental music here. I won't get it until the end of January (at best).

Michael Gielen - Edition

Just listening to Busoni: Berceuse elegiaque. Good piece, performance (from the mighty SWR symphony orchestra under Gielen) and sound. This holds for most pieces I heard from this box-set, which at 8,99€ is quite a bargain I think. It contains regular 5 Hänssler Classic Gielen CDs, complete with full booklet.

Jón Leifs: The Three String Quartets....

André

The second quartet is a most beautiful work, a requiem for his daughter who had drowned the previous year.

Thank you for that. This is my first exploration of these quartets.

I'm surprised and impressed you enjoyed it as much as I did!  :o
Though the effect of that piece has worn off for me a bit, I've heard it at least 15-20 times over the past four months

Now...I'm wondering....what you'd think of Laurie Anderson  ::) (not classical but similar aesthetic with use of language and voice and a primary musical element)

I'm a fan (of Laurie Anderson). I'll check out Kate Soper sometime.

Quite a fan too, "Strange Angels" being my favourite album so far. I also have "Mister Heartbreak" and "Big Science", but know them less.

I hope you enjoy Soper's work when you get around to her! So far people seem to be quite divided based on the comments I've read here. It would be very interesting to hear what you think :)

Ooooo that's a good symphony! Gliere's 3rd deserves more performances. Epic work!

.

I have some Roussel symphonies performed by Martinon and Munch, but so far the 1st has escaped me. The set includes many excellent couplings of little-known Roussel.

Music written in the year 1914: Koechlin: violin sonata op. 64; Vierne: préludes pour piano op. 36; Piano quintet op.42
At 88:27, this is the longest single CD I've ever seen. Hopefully my cd player will encompass the range.
