Quote from: Spotted Horses on February 13, 2023, 01:56:48 PMAs an admirer of Bach's works for unaccompanied cello and unaccompanied violin, I am interested in similar works by other composers. There are Reger's suites for viola and cello, and I've acquired this recording of Hindemith's unaccampanied viola works.

Very delayed reaction because I'm rather behind on this thread... do you know the Kodaly sonata for solo cello? It's a marvel.
Every single post on the forum is unnecessary. Including the ones that are interesting or useful.

That is a piece I have had trouble with.  Maybe I need to find the right recording.

Will be curious how you like the Morales and Cavalli.

Some of these are preorder. A great fan of Cavalli, I was at a great baroque festival in Trondheim early February and heard a concert of excerpts from several early Venetian operas, fronted by a supeb Claire Lefilliatre with a great ensemble. Their extra of a Book 2 Monteverdi madrigal is simply the finest of anything I have heard on stage for å pretty long time. Also as well Rameaus Les Indes Galante and Handels Trionfo del Tempo -one of Handels absolute masterpieces (with a superb ad-hoc ensemble), as well as concerts by Ensemble Kapsberger and Style Antico.

I am old enough now to avoid lots of stuff of marginal interest that I will not play more than once - those are for the occasional streaming, and focuses on areas of particular interest when I still buy physical stuff.

With Parsifal and a couple of fine string quartet recitals in January, and tickets for Rusalka in a few weeks, it has been a great season for live muisc so far in 2023. I also have secured complete festival passes with hotel for Leif Ove Andsnes' (director) Rosendal chamber festival in August, nearly 4 days focused on Brahms and related works.

From Amazon.es:

The Suite in C major, op. 13 is the only commercially recorded (AFAIK) orchestral work by Casella still absent from my collection, and this disc is the only one in Francesco La Vecchia and his (unfortunately now disbanded) Rome Symphony Orchestra's series devoted to the composer on Naxos I still hadn't bought.

Just because Bruno Canino plays in the concerto (I'm not at all acquainted with Clementi's music).

And not music, but a book on painter and set designer Enrico Prampolini (whom we've been discussing recently in the "Best Covers" thread —hat tip to @pjme ).

This is a volume  of the (vast) series of books (for very small coffee tables  ;D ), published by the Amici della Scala, dealing with painters, set designers, etc. who have worked at that famous theatre. I already have the volumes dedicated to Piero Tosi, Gio Ponti, and Sylvano Bussotti (apart from being a composer, he was also a director and designer).

Would I be correct in thinking that series is not available in English?

Did an order at Prestomusic for the first time since the Royal Mail chaos.  This will be my first acquaintance with Borenstein.
