The fifth one I ordered.

Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

8 CD box - OOP but still available.  Singing style has changed dramatically since WWII, often for the worse.  This is a testimony of the art of singing from earlier times.

A few days ago I got five items from the jpc Diapason sale: Mozart chamber music box, Schubert piano sonatas box, a 3-disk-set of Nelson Freire 1960s recordings, and singles with Franck (symphony: Monteux, violin sonata: Francescatti) and Tchaikovsky (1950s recordings of the trio with Guilels/Kogan/Rostropovich and the 3rd quartet with the Quatuor Borodine).

Following Jeffrey Smith's footsteps, the Gluck / Wagner Iphigenie auf Aulis, in this classic recording:

I very much enjoy the recording conducted by Christoph Spering on Oehms, but thought to hear Fi-Di as Agamemnon. Plus, it was really cheap at an amazon.de MP seller ("gebraucht - sehr gut")  :)...

Thumbs up.
With a bit of luck you'll get the Eurodisc cover that my copy has. It uses a drawing of very recognizable DFD and Moffo in Greek costume (heads only).

Probably not the most highly regarded but it was about $8 including delivery [asin]B000026B1I[/asin]

Thanks, was considering the Kempff set but this one is bit cheaper.

Also on the fence about this one:

Kempff is the GOAT here.  The only acceptable long-term solution is to have both sets.

Barenboim's Mozart is not top-tier, and it can be a bit romanticized from time to time, but the trade off here is how well he does some of the variations, which with some pianists seem almost to be recorded out of dedication to contractual obligations.

I was on the fence about that, but bought it on Todd's say so, and am glad I did. An excellent set. If you can have only one though, Brendel.

Note that the Zacharias is nowhere close to (semi-)complete as far as the early sonatas and fragmentary works go, though. That is, no D 157, 279, 459, 557, 566, 625, 840.

It's Father's Day, why not?  I pay my kids' expenses and only rarely beat them, so I deserve something nice.

I'm expanding my reexamination of Mehta.  His LAPO recording of Mahler 1 was the first Mahler I heard, and it helped convince me to explore classical music, but I (perhaps) too hastily culled it from my collection many years ago.

This version of Haydn's Nelson Mass by Ferencsik is an old favourite (I had it on cassette). Maria Stader is wonderful in the important soprano part. Ferencsik is bold and assertive but doesn't stint on Old World warmth.

I have a few dozen Bruckner 7ths on my shelves, but somehow have never managed to hear this one by Rosbaud, long acclaimed as a classic. I really look forward to hear it.

I think it has little overlap with the Testament set above, will have to figure out if I want other Testament releases of his (the EMI Icon has been here for a while)

My current favourite rendering of my favourite composer's sonatas. They're sequenced out of order, but I'll allow her that indulgence. 😌

Picked up the recommendation here a few weeks back ... was curious, as I have mostly older recordings of Scriabin's sonatas so far (Sofronitsky, Ashenazy, Ponti) and felt like a complete current cycle should be a nice addition. First listen was enjoyed a lot, that's for sure!
