Both discs have provoked wildly divergent opinions. Critics are all over the place.

Both albums are excellent in my opinion. Hope you enjoy them, John!

Thanks, Greg! 8)

Nothing like a bit controversy to go with my sides of Stravinsky and Tchaikovsky. ;) ;D

Parsifal

This one:

I had a disc from this series and remember liking it. Now I inextricably can't find it. I was motivated to purchase the (now deleted) set because I noticed it contains a transcription of the Piano Trio, done by the conductor. I've been enchanted by the trio (listening to Florestan and Bekova Trios) and the idea of hearing it in an orchestral setting is attractive.

I just noticed a rather unfortunate error in my collection...I didn't own any Glinka! Problem solved. 8)

There's been a run on the Holmboe quartets lately around here. I can't say I'm unhappy about that, even though my own Holmboe obsession is in a waning phase just now. It'll be back.
Every single post on the forum is unnecessary. Including the ones that are interesting or useful.

You did it

Oh really? I wasn't paying attention. I just got a great deal. For a little over $15 for the whole set, I can't resist.

You're about the 3rd or 4th person to report buying it in a relatively short space of time (in the scheme of things for obscure composers with a limited discography).

Maybe it's the price that's getting people's attention. That certainly is a good deal.

It's a JPC sale. I bought them too, the box should be here any time now. It's a repackaging of individual discs, which are also on sale at JPC. In case someone already has a few of these quartets, he/she can fill up the missing items at low cost. Neat.

right. It is actually 11.33 Euros for me for the whole boxset, which is about what I paid for the single disc that I have of the string quartet disc that I do have.

BTW, Supraphon has released a newer recording of the same works, but different performers.

Nipponari, Magic Nights, Czech Rhapsody

The last four are all listed as low stock, so I'll have to see if I actually get them or if they go to back order.

POUNDS THE TABLE! I hope you receive them all even if they're in short supply. You make this ol' boy a happy camper indeed. I'm surprised you went with the recording of the VCs, though, given how you're not too fond of VC2. :-\

Jean Cras: Orchesterwerke (2 CDs)

Alas, they tell me that this Jean Cras CD is out of stock and will not be part of my order.  :'(

I've never heard VC1 or the Rhapsody, the other two works on that CD, so it was still worth getting.
