Sounds likd I need it..... I am sooo over Fischer-Dieskau (with the notable exception of his earlier and live recordings).

Actually, the one that makes this CD is Christoph Eschenbach who sets the tone for Goerne.  He is a whole lot more than an accompanist.  I also have other recordings of these piece.  The piano part is central.

Are you familiar with Martinu's oeuvre in general? Would love to know or, at least, have an idea of what you've heard of his music?

No, I am not that familiar with his music to be honest. I started off with some of his chamber music on vinyl many years ago and subsequently progressed to his symphonies which I did like. My personal issue with music in general is that I was grounded in the Baroque and Classical eras for much of my listening life and had no ear at all for more modern music [with the noticeable exception of Mahler and Sibelius]. However, as I have grown older my appreciation and understanding and indeed tolerance for more modern music has increased and improved. With this in mind I am slowly beginning to expose myself to "modern" composers and Martinu will come under that umbrella. I am very partial to a cello concerto so the Martinu cello concertos should aid my cause, I hope. I will post what I think when I get to listen.  :)

Yay.

Although makes me sad they never did a Volume 3. There were enough works for it.
Every single post on the forum is unnecessary. Including the ones that are interesting or useful.

Well, it's good to hear that you've branched off into an area of music I obviously feel quite strongly about: the 20th Century. After Dvořák and Janáček, Martinů is recognized as the greatest Czech composer. I hope you enjoy his music as much as I have for the past eight years. He was one of my first classical discoveries and his music hit me instantly.

After running into the 1st volume, I managed to order the 2nd one from the Flora website:

It is very good.  As dark as the cover, but a very moving interpretation.

I would take issue with that, as Suk certainly holds up extremely well when compared to Martinu.  And Smetana certainly is greater than Martinu in every way.

::) I didn't realize music was some kind of competition. I'm certainly not playing this 'who's greater than...' game with you.

I disagree. A lot.
