You were missing Lajtha's most striking symphonies. He's an incredible composer in my book.

It's a great feeling to have something to look forward to  :P

Purchases supplement: when you remember the eBay seller has their own website, discover the price there is cheaper than what it was on eBay anyway before an algorithm made it jump, and then discover they have something else rare at a better price than you've seen anywhere.

I received this from presto:

Wonder what I'll make of it when I have time to listen to it......

And this, which I've already listened to:

Very attractive music.

I recently bought the BIS CD which I really liked.
I trust that you read the booklet notes with the Novak CD ;D
At the risk of seeming to be a bigger head than usual (ask my wife and daughter) I was very pleased with that Novak release, which I suggested to Alto myself. It combines works from two original ClassicO CDs. I think that it makes a great programme as it combines three of my favourite Novak works. Novak himself enjoyed mountain climbing and 'In the Tatras' is as much, I think, about a spiritual as a physical encounter with the mountains. The 'Christchild's Lullabye' from the 'Eight Nocturnes' is one of the most beautiful things I know - ideal late-night listening, with a glas of wine.  :)

Nice buyings Madiel, basically all items and repertoire I'd be interested in too, some of them I already own, but I have no Pejacevic ...

From JPC, all on offer:

- the complete Haenssler Bach box, will then be selling some of the Bach I already own, including the Cantatas set.

- Dutilleux Centenary Edition, Warner. Some of the stuff I don't have on CD, and there are some new recordings. Will be selling some old stuff.

- Horowitz Chopin, the Sony Recordings. Box. An area of renewed interest, some of the CD Chopin I own is quite bland IMHO, such as in the DG complete works. A lot of this material I have on old LPs and scattered on recital CDs though, but it's nice to have it all together.

- Katsaris, the Sony Recordings, box. Ditto, judging from samples, his Chopin seems sensational, pointing to the architecture as well as flashy. The Polonaises seem more varied and lyrical than the often monotonous, forceful Pollini, IMO. And the Bach solo piano concertos after other composers will be my first (and only) piano version.

- JPC Cello Box, 10 CD. Interesting repertoire of Vierne, Widor, Volkmann, Kelemen ... and a very good Schumann concerto, apparently. A pity with the amount of historical Janigro material with ancient sound there, not of interest to me.

- Monteverdi, Selva Morale ... with Venexiana, 3CD. Fresher than my old Corboz, but it's less complete.

Pejacevic is quite cheap at JPC - not surprising for the CPO label, but they're also advertising discounts at the moment.

All the more interesting that the conductor's name literally means Blue Water.
Do what I must do, and let what must happen happen.

+ 1. That box was essential for preserving my sanity during the Spring lockdown.

These are the best Faure song albums I've heard along with Veronique Dietschy (who is perhaps best of all). I've become rather picky about sung Faure, especially the late works which is where the Hyperion series falls down.

Just bought:

Strauss: Complete Orchestral Works - Hybrid SACDs Tower Records Definition Series

I love Kempe's Strauss so much, and although I have two other iterations of this box set, I was so impressed by the Berglund Bournemouth Sibelius box set of symphonies from this Tower Records series, that I couldn't pass this one up. I absolutely love the packaging of these sets with their hardback digibook cases housed in a tough as nails outer box.

Also bought:

This was the last recording I needed from the Tippett Hickox series. Can't wait to hear this one as it's been on my to-buy list for quite some time.

Last purchase of the year, stocking up on some Marc-André Dalbavie:

I've always enjoyed Dalbavie's music, which—as has been pointed out in the composer's  thread—may occasionally  lack some "depth", but is brilliantly executed, and his skills at orchestration appear extraordinary. He's a sort of direct heir to Maurice Ravel IMO.

I've just learnt that the world première of his operatic adaptation of Claudel's Le Soulier de Satin is scheduled for May 2021 at the Opéra Bastille. The performance (including two intermissions lasting a combined 75 minutes) will take slightly less than 7 hours!

After a solid week of sampling, ordered today.

it looks like 2021 will be even more French for me  8)

Courtesy of a Presto Christmas Gift card :

And some used cheap copies from Ebay:

There probably will be another couple of Debussy lined up soon (and another Saint-Saens), I might ask for those for my forthcoming birthday  0:)

I'll post some thoughts about this order in the French thread in due course.

I sampled Dietschy last night but her voice didn't work for me (too much "mannerism", too operatic ?). Walker/Martineau worked better for me but i think, again, I would have very limited appetite for songs overall...who knows though !!
