Just bought:

This recording has been lingering in and out of my shopping cart for years even well after my first Tchaikovsky 'phase' was over. Finally decided to buy it as I've heard excerpts from it and definitely wanted the work in its entirety.

That's an excellent disc - well played and wonderfully characterful music.  The sort of thing that fits Jarvi's style perfectly.  And a very good companion to his set of the 4 Orchestral Suites which I mentioned one of recently (some of the individual/original releases are available in Chandos' own bargain bin/deletions page on their website)

Indeed and I was going to buy those recordings with the Orchestral Suites, but Chandos is having issues with Paypal in their webstore and I couldn't check out, but I really wanted that orchestration of The Seasons, so I bought a download with Svetlanov conducting it (along with many of his Tchaikovsky performances that were impossible for me to find on CD).

It's utterly insane that there are only like 4 complete recordings of the Tchaikovsky orchestral suites. They should be blockbuster super smash hits that everyone includes in their symphony or ballet cycles.

I don't know these works too well, but the only recording(s) I own are the Dorati performances right now (individually and these came in the Masterworks Edition on DG that I bought many years ago).

Thread duty with a special hat-tip to Andre:

Those are the best we have right now, at least until I kidnap Vladimir Jurowski and the London Philharmonic and force them to record the set before their release.

Hah, now that would be awesome --- sans the kidnapping part of course. :D

Stocking up on some Florent Schmitt:

The early (op. 24) and short  Chant élégiaque for cello and piano seems to be a filler in this CD that includes the cello sonatas of Fauré and Koechlin.

For the Saxophone Quartet, op. 102 (from 1948).

Mainly for the late(ish) piano works Enfants, op. 94, and Chaîne brisée, op. 87 (I listened to the latter on YouTube and found it impressive).

Ordered before it gets of the radar. These Gramola discs get OOP quicker then lightning. Have some experience with that. Anyway this one has female composers on it, and one that I hold very dear namely Dora Pejacevic , a short piece, but still....
I've always had great respect for Paddington because he is amusingly English and a eccentric bear He is a great British institution and emits great wisdom with every growl. Of course I have Paddington at home, he is a member of the family, sure he is from the moment he was born. We have adopted him.

Hopefully you'll enjoy the Chalabala Dvorak disc as much as myself (and a couple of others here as well), John !  ;)

All this talk of Florent Schmitt reminded me I wanted to get his Psalm setting. Tough to find Martinon, though...

You've got it here as well (in case you can locate a cheap copy). I never got this Erato "ICON" box, as I have most of the contents as single releases or in other sets):

Hmm...tempting. I have a few singles off of this box already, so I will have to do some soul searching to see if the duplication is worth the price. Thank you!

That is insane, Brian. I 100% agree!

I love the Dorati/New Philharmonia recording by the way. John, Mirror Image alert! ⚠

It's especially insane when you notice that Amazon seems to offer 1812 different recordings of the Nutcracker Suite, with Swan Lake Suite not far behind.

I have the Marriner recording of the Suites. My copy was on the Phoenix label but its current incarnation is on Brilliant.
