Good stuff, especially the lovely and endearing string quartets. Do you know his two piano trios? Delectable music.

Yes, I have and enjoy the Trio Parnassus. His piano and violin concertos are also delectable, as are the violin sonatas.

There was some idiotic store on Amazon MP that kept doing that to me several years ago.  They kept listing it when they didn't have it.  I was so mad I complained to Amazon about it!

It has happened to me several times as well. A real annoyance.

I may have posted about this already, but it arrived. I was was happy to report that it came in a convenient format, a sturdy cardboard box with 18 discs in cardboard sleeves with track list on the back (plus a booklet). I was nervous it would be one of those releases where Naxos packs a prodigious stack of jewel cases in a cardboard sleeve.

I've already ripped it, now I have to listen...

Also, ended up ordering this release with the original published version of Brahms Piano Trio No 1 (Op 8).

Trio Parnassus rings a bell, and it turns out I have a CD of them playing Reger Piano Trios. If I like their performance I may collect the other volumes of the series, which includes Brahms' revised version of Op 8.

Wait a sec!  I thought you were the digital download, physical media belongs in a landfill guy!

When it was that or pay United Van Lined to move them, I sent them to the landfill. I'm happy to let them sit in boxes in the garage.

I generally get what's cheapest. Sometimes it's a lossless download, sometimes a used CD, often big box sets aren't available as a download. I try to avoid downloads that don't come with a booklet, and I have a mild preference for ripped CDs because I prefer the cue+flac format over individual flac files for each track.

I don't have those: if you go through the comments here relating to the VC series, it seems to not be as good. TBH, you may be the first person here to actively recommend it.

Oh but I did not actively recommend them --- I simply mentioned them in a humorous vein.  :D

I have them all but listened to the first volume only and I can't even remember anything about it.  ;)

So it seems. As if the Bach cantatas weren't enough of a rabbit hole already !
