Very cool, Karlo. Thanks for the videos. I've listened to some of these before I just couldn't remember them. Joutsenet is a great work. I re-listened to that one just awhile ago.

Noticed ArkivMusic has the Grand Piano label on sale and made a tactical strike.

I'd have ordered the two Saint-Saens volumes I don't have, but the one I do have is marked by extremely disappointing pianism.

My final purchases until Christmas:

And let's not forget the purchases I made earlier today...

Dunstaple by Orlando Consort (Metronome)
I liked the Dunstaple recording by the Hilliards so much (reissued last year as a Virgin 2cd w/their L. Power recording), I followed a superlative recommendation of Amazon's 'Giordano Bruno' to this recording.  The ASIN above offered 'new' copies that were expensive but still affordable.  A cheaper price at Importcds, but it looks like it would require backordering, and this item looks like it is well on its way to being totally OOP.  I am also interested in a Tonus Peregrinus (sic?) disc on Naxos, which sounds like it would be pretty nice.

It certainly is! I have posted some of the videos here before, so no wonder that you've heard them.

I just noticed the the price dropped on the only two items that had been hanging around in my Arkiv Music cart (the first two items below), so I decided to buy them and take a risk on the HAYREN disc and the Tormis disc, which I only really know by sound samples.  Because I'm a helpless rube for sales, I took the discount bait and also purchased Arkiv's ""VIP Club" free-shipping-for-a-year thingadoo.  Reel that sucker in!
It is true that Arkiv offers great deals on sale stuff, with some frequency; and I owe them for use of their site for discographical purposes.

$7

For $8.  I see this was shortlisted by Jens in his recent introductory classical collection for ~$100 list via IonArts and/or Forbes.  I had borrowed this and was playing it at home ~4.5 years ago, and my roommate, who knew even less about classical music than I did, listened to the churning motorik (iirc) of one of the Stravinsky pieces and said, "Bach is awesome!"  He was right in more ways than one!

HAYREN: Mansurian/Komitas by Kashkashian et al.....$8

Veljo Tormis: LITANY TO THUNDER.....$8

Yeah, what little I've heard of it sounded great, Greg.

Italians, terribly nice people and you can trust them to come with discs with the most obscure themes - it took me a while to figure this one out from the packaging! ;D

But it was a super-bargain and Roberta Invernizzi is singing in it, so.. 8)

A lot of music for months to come. :)

This makes my sixth complete Ring cycle (Solti, Janowski, Neuhold, Furtwängler 1950, Furtwängler 1954, Boulez-Chereau [DVD] + Leinsdorf's Walküre on Decca)

I owns only a  Faure's chamber music boxset by the old French musicians (Ferras,Tortelier,Francois,Dumay,Heidsieck), so updating the new box with contemporary performers is a good idea.

We used to have a "Purchases Today" thread, but this is the New "Purchases Today" thread.  Unless I misunderstand, in which case all my second-hand purchases have been off-topic.

It's crystal clear, if we must understand the title as New "Purchases Today" Thread:)
