Thanks, Moonfish! So far, Oslo is proving to be a very pleasant city. Off to Stockholm at the end of this week...

As far as this Götterdämmerung is concerned, I recall seeing it listed in old Schwann catalogues  (it was the first complete recording of the work). It seemed like an appropriate souvenir  :)

It even tempts me, but do I have to go to Oslo first?  ;)

It's there, yes - and it's pretty fabulous!

It can also be found on the EMI Liszt Piano box, this one:

Quite a nice selection, really, though once you dig deeper, you likely end up with some duplicates ... however, I'm fond of it, as it was my start with Liszt (it was sold for under 10€ once on one of the european amazon sites and I just bought it, without reading up anything or even really checking out the contents ...)

No need to come to Oslo for this, but then it wouldn't be the same, would it?   :D

Cheers,

Todd

But for the upcoming Zimerman release (a must buy) and the upcoming Vinnitskaya release (a pretty certain to buy), these, along with the BAT set, when it arrives, should hold me over for the rest of the summer.

I think that's the first time I've seen Barto's name mentioned on GMG. I saw him play Bartok's 2nd PC a couple of years ago with the NSO. He was outstanding! Unfortunately, I didn't much like his recent recording of Messiaen's Des Canyons aux Etoiles... with the LSO (the piece is a favorite of mine).
Beethoven's Op. 133 -- A fugue so bad that even Beethoven himself called it "Grosse".

Just arrived from MP seller Marvelio:

Took forever to arrive, but the price was right, so no big deal.  ;)

Really nice 6 disc sampler of the ECM aesthetic.

In the winter of 2012/13, the Haus der Kunst in Munich one of Europes most important museums for contemporary art hosted the exhibition ECM A Cultural Archaeology.

The goal of curators Okwui Enwezor and Markus Müller was to show the range of the labels artistic endeavours in music, graphic art, and photography and its creative interchanges with film, theatre and literature.

For this exhibition, Manfred Eicher and Steve Lake created this box-set accentuating directions in ECMs rich musical history.

Many themes and streams are touched upon here including the range of composition in the New Series, music for and from films, imaginative historical reconstructions, trans-cultural music, ambient minimalism, and jazz and improvisation of many hues, in a collection with a playing time of more than seven hours.

With Heiner Goebbels, Steve Reich, Arvo Part, Gidon Kremer and Keith Jarrett, Gyorgy Kurtag, Tigran Mansurian, Rosamunde Quartett, Betty Olivero, Kim Kashkashian, Meredith Monk, Giya Kancheli, Keller Quartett, Hilliard Ensemble, Valentin Silvestrov, Eleni Karaindrou, Jan Garbarek, Jon Balke and Amina Alaoui, Rolf Lislevand, Nils Petter Molvær, Eivind Aarset, Stefano Battaglia, Tord Gustavsen, Egberto Gismonti, Norma Winstone, Ralph Alessi, Anja Lechner, Vassilis Tsabropoulos, Colin Vallon, Christian Wallumrød, Tomasz Stanko, Jimmy Giuffre, Paul Bley, Evan Parker, Barre Phillips, Robin Williamson, Old & New Dreams, Sinikka Langeland, Frode Haltli, Gary Peacock, Steve Kuhn, Wadada Leo Smith and many others.
Wise words from Que:

Never waste a good reason for a purchase....  ;)
