Surprised you didn't own this set already, Paul. Anyway, it's my favorite Shostakovich symphony set even after all the other ones I've acquired through the years. Enjoy!

I'm francophone and pushing 60 yet I've NEVER had any version (LP, cassette or cd) of Gounod's Faust.
There are many reasons for that, first of which being that I'm not much of an opera fan - just a regular mainstream opera lover. - and also the fact that I've never found a cast truly attuned to the french idiom.

Hopefully this version will fill the bill:

Faust: Leopold Simoneau
Marguerite: Pierrette Alarie
Mephisto: Heinz Rehfuss

Stéréo, vintage 1963

I very recently purchased 3 big tone poems of Strauss (Heldenleben, Don Quixote, Symphonia Domestica) assembled on an EMI twofer. Upon hearing them I realized this combination of sound and orchestral magnificence would do wonders in Bruckner's symphonies 4 and 7. Therefore I had to purchase them. This is the only good-money solution to the task at hand. Thing is, that 6-cd box ALSO contains Strauss''  Heldenleben and Symphonia Domestica, which makes the EMI twofer redundant, save for its Don Quixote.

That's why I've also purchased it separately:

And will sell back the EMI twofer. Are you still with me ?  ???

That seems like a good strategy; acquire what you need and eliminate that which you do not require to help fund that which you require  :)

Just bought:

I've been busy processing a large order from JPC. Really an embarrassment of riches. Most of the recordings were only a couple of dollars.

I mostly have the Singer Pur discs. As for Singerknaben, I was not quite sure that would be my cup of tea, but will be grateful for your impressions in due time.

I have a large part of the CD'S you mentioned in both posts. The more popular things by Singer Pur, I let go, the repertoire did not interest me. All the classical CD'S of them are superb. The Vaet discs are a no brainer really. Graun also I see...CPE Bach, excellent, the Danzi disc I passed this time, already have a lot of the wind concertos, the Flautando discs, superb, the double Telemann, also a good investment, the Domspatzen I let go, not my repertoire at all, and finally Dittersdorf was a pleasant surprise....I love to hear your impression Richard.
I've always had great respect for Paddington because he is amusingly English and a eccentric bear He is a great British institution and emits great wisdom with every growl. Of course I have Paddington at home, he is a member of the family, sure he is from the moment he was born. We have adopted him.

Richard: methink you just enriched your collection by some 250 discs !!!!   :o

kishnevi

I say Richard had a case of the Membrans. :P

Meanwhile, for me

All from the new releases page at Arkivmusic.
The Ysaye sonatas seem to be getting popular.  If my count is right, these two are the third and fourth recording of Op. 27 to be issued in the last 12 months.

Let me know what you think of Elder's Sibelius, Jeffrey. Do you own his other Sibelius recordings?

Harry

I ordered some brand new releases, all at full price, but too beautiful to resist, with quite some old music, and one modern composer. The Machaut is a revolutionary interpretation.

Has he done Sibelius with the Halle before? If so, I don't have it.  The only composer I've gone deep with Elder is Elgar.  And the two installments of Wagner's Ring that have been issued.  I'm hoping they get around to the other two.
