Hello everybody

I'm Steve, and I've recently joined the forum and am already benefiting from the insight of the many great posters as I continue my voyage of discovery through classical music.  I'm sure I'll be asking many questions (and hopefully eventually answering some!) as I go along.

So far I've taken quite a scattergun approach and am particularly enjoying the works of Liszt, Chopin, Stravinsky and J.S Bach.  I'm generally drawn to minor keys, and am branching out from piano-based music into string quartets and orchestral music at the moment.

Anyway, I look forward to exchanging views with you all in the future!

Best wishes

Steve

Nice to meet you, Steve, welcome to the forum. :)
So glad you like Liszt and Chopin, they're absolutely among my favourite composers. Bach's works are also great, especially the The Well-Tempered Clavier, which is a masterpiece.

Hi Steve, and welcome.  A scattergun approach often works well; it's good to hear different things. And as for minor keys, too bad you missed one of the regulars here (I think he's gone) who used the moniker D minor;D

A scattergun approach to music is good Steve, otherwise it would be boring!  And you're already marked positively in my books for having a brilliant forum name in the style of great Science!   ;D

Thanks very much for your kind welcome, everybody  :)

Tony T, I live in Yorkshire now but grew up in Lancashire near Wigan (a clue as to where in my user name!).  Thanks for trying to have a look at the clip, by the way, and sorry it was unavailable - I've now identified my nemesis!

I'll no doubt be conversing with you all in the many threads on the forum.  Thanks for the encouragement and guidance so far!

And here's your new friend. ;D

(Welcome aboard, by the way; and no, I can't identify the music in the programme. ;D)

Welcome aboard. I hope you actually make some posts and don't just fade out into the background like so many of these newbies have done. We need more members participating!

Newtonian

Thanks to all the new welcomes!  Mirror Image, I'll certainly do my best to participate - you'll likely find me in any threads about moody or miserable music!

Opus106, thanks for the link - rather more permanent and accessible than my previous link!  I'm not sure I'm quite ready for the Ring Cycle in its entirety yet, but maybe soon...

Well Shostakovich, Weinberg, and Schnittke are about as miserable as it comes. :D

Fafner

Hi Steve, welcome and have fun (in minor and perhaps even major).

If you like 'miserable' give Górecki's Symphony No. 3 a try. That's probably as miserable as it gets.   :'(
