I guess this one is more geared toward the guys here who grew up with comic books in their youth and are now seeing lots being adapted to the silver screen, more than ever .. so, what would be your top comic book movies ? you can incl. more than 5 if necessary ..
Action is the only truth

TheGSMoeller

Superman 2
Spider-Man 2
The Dark Knight

Only three for now, and they are all sequels. I like how these three films display the struggles that a superhero deals with on earth, trying to conform to normality while holding a large responsibility, and how their loved ones are effected by their identities. Plus the villains in these three are all classic.

With great power comes great responsibility.

Do you know, I have never read a comic book. I saw the cartoons on tv as a kid, but never paid money for a comic. I just always assumed that was the norm.

Don't let that stop you from participating in this thread. List some movies!  :)

Superheroes:

Superman: The Movie
The Dark Knight
Iron Man
Spiderman 2
The Avengers

Though I agree with you James that The Dark Knight Returns is awesome, just finished reading it and watched part 1 with netflix sending me part 2.

Non-superheroes:

Men in Black
The Crow
A History of Violence
Sin City
V for Vendetta

Manga shoutout:

Akira
Metropolis (know not that one, the anime one)
Ghost in the Shell

Yes!

Also, for further non-American comic books:

The Adventures of Tintin

Hmmm,

Dark Knight
The Avengers (for some clever situations and dialog)

But that is it. The first Superman is the still the best in my opinion, but not a super duper movie. Iron Man is entertaining, but nothing more (and totally forgetable for me).

That is on my queue, somehow I missed it in the theater.  Noticed recently that it is on netflix watch instantly.

I've never been into comics (I've read two in my life), and I'm not really into comic book movies as anything other than big screen 'splosion fests.  And the darker and more violent, the better.  My list reflects that:

The Dark Knight

Batman Begins

The Dark Knight Rises

Batman (1989)

Kick-Ass
The universe is change; life is opinion. - Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

People would rather believe than know - E.O. Wilson

Propaganda death ensemble - Tom Araya

Just scanning through the threads responses .. Captain America, Heavy Metal, Superman 2, X-men: First Class .. I've seen and enjoyed all of these. There are others that I look forward to checking out (or re-visiting) .. Daredevil, Green Lantern, Swamp Thing, Hulk, Thor, Punisher War Zone. And looking forward to future films - Avengers sequel, Iron Man 4, Silver Surfer, Fantastic Four, Justice League, The Amazing Spiderman sequel etc.

The Daredevil film was one of the biggest abominations I've seen in many years. Doesn't do any justice to the character at all. Nothing like the Daredevil comics I read when the glorious Frank Miller was writing for the character. The problem with the Daredevil film, besides having a weak cast, is the lack of internalization that occurs in the comics. This lack of internalization also ended up ruining The Watchmen film.

I haven't seen it yet, but I still wouldn't mind checking it out.

Yeah, it's possibly one of the worst comic adaptations I've seen. The Green Lantern would be next. Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan? Come on!!!

LOL

For Daredevil .. I was just reading up on it now, did you see the Director's Cut or just the original theatrical release?

Director's Cut, but it really doesn't matter as the story line, plot development, and the cast make this one giant rotten egg.
