MI, you've been MIA for a few days! What did you think of the Hungarian progressive rock video I posted a couple of days ago (the rendition of Bartok's "Dance Suite"). I personally don't care for it, but I think that it is cool to see!

...I love my Hackett avatar and it's not going anywhere anytime soon. I'll leave it up at least through April...

Yes, I'll accept the challenge.

I'm thinking about making Martinů my permanent avatar. I certainly seem to go through a lot of Martinů phases each year and the flare ups are unpredictable.

You lasted longer than I thought -- I'll give you that!  ;)
Beethoven's Op. 133 -- A fugue so bad that even Beethoven himself called it "Grosse".

Well, I wasn't completely MIA, Nate. I did make a few posts here and there in the classical sections, but I mainly hung around here in 'The Diner'. But, I'm back now, so rest assured I'll be hanging out with you guys for awhile.

I go through these little prog rock phases every now and again, so it's hard not to indulge from time and time. As for the Hungarian progressive rock video you posted, I don't think I even watched it, but I do remember the band Focus incorporating some Bartok into one of their songs, although Focus were a Dutch band of course.

MI, I noticed that you are now Honegger. What do you think of "Pacific 231"? I've heard this a few times and I was confused at first, but I liked it overall. I've been meaning to hear more of his work (along with an enumerable amount of other composers, that is :D).

Symphonies 2 and 3 are best. Karajan's recording is the best but Dutoit is good.

Hey MI!
At this avatar pace I think you should make an avatar  GIF file with about 2000 photos of composers that rotate every 20 minutes. Does that sound exciting?   ::)   ;D ;D

Help me decide so I'm not left with this uneasy feeling any longer. :)

Who should be your permanent avatar you ask? Well it has to someone (I am assuming a composer/conductor/performer) that means the world to you. If no such person exists then I'm afraid that much like the Flying Dutchman you shall wander the avatar seas forever and ever and ever.............

I wish you the best of luck in your voyage. Your Senta is out there somewhere that I am sure.

Permanent avatar + Mirror Image = contradiction in terms

Have you thought of putting together a composite avatar of several composers.  It's relatively easy to do with Photoshop or Gimp; just stitch together one picture of each from what you already have.  For instance, Barber, DSCH,  Bartok and Ravel--four, five, or six of the composers who you keep coming back to most often.

A few of those to rotate once a week sounds more realistic.  :)

Or alternately,  one avatar with pictures arranged in ten rows, ten columns.  One hundred composers would probably be enough, and even have space for Steve Hackett.   Of course, we wouldn't be able to see the actual images.....

Yeah, Honegger came and went rather fast. :) Pacific 231 is a cool work. Check out Rugby as well. As Ken suggested, Symphonies 2 & 3 also fantastic. I also highly recommend his Cello Concerto. Great stuff.

Well the problem I've run into is that I have a lot of composers and musicians that mean the world to me. I suppose I'll be at sea for a long time. :)

I've thought about this, but each time I do something like this, it turns out to be not so great. Thanks for your feedback here, though.

Thanks, EigenUser, but I can't use it as it's very disorienting and it would just bug the hell out of everyone else and I do that enough with just my posts. :P

Yes, please don't use it. I hate gifs.
