I enjoyed Insidious (watched it a few days ago) .. things get a little nutty story-wise at the end but it works, especially Wan's pacing .. The Conjuring is really good imo. I really liked that one .. everything comes together. Too bad Wan has moved onto the Fast & Furious franchise .. he does have a strong voice for Horror. I watched Saw awhile back and remember liking it, but not as much as his newer stuff. I should probably check out Insidious Chapter 2.

with the second part I was talking of the second part of the movie (if you've seen it, I'm talking of the part in the other dimension). Insidious 2 is not as good as the first one,  imo obviously. But if you've enjoyed the first part to watch it is not a bad idea.

I have the spanish REC on my Wish List (so maybe next October or something) .. it is supposed to be up there in the "found footage" delivery of horror .. initiated by Blair Witch Project .. and franchised by the successful first Paranormal Activity movie (which I have lined up for this week).

yes, and I confess that I'm a fan of the genre, I know that is not Great Cinema but as I've said...

I haven't heard of Eden Lake (will Google it). The House of the Devil, saw it a few days back .. liked it.

Haven't seen Ichi (not sure if I want to!)

I have Cloverfield on my wish list.

For what I remember Ichi is a good movie, probably better than many titles in the list. The only thing is that as I've said it's not exactly a horror.

bigshot

Haunter is a very good film. It's a real sleeper.

Besides, if you WANT MORE .. there many ambitiously shot series, franchises, trilogies etc found within the medium.
And that's my point.

Which ones have you seen?
I've probably seen roughly a third of them. To give you a sample: Saw, The Ring, House of the Devil, Cabin Fever, The Mist, Funny Games, Innkeepers, etc.

So not much (like me) .. are there any favorites that you have seen that are not listed?
Got a kick out of Slither - it's the only one that leaps to mind.  Perhaps for Halloween, Trick r Treat.

Oh .. hehehe I felt the opposite, the first 45 minutes / hour of the picture were really strong .. then when it got
into all of the Astral-plane stuff and kind-of silly "convenient" plot twists it sort of fucked things up ..

From what I've read it is just a senseless gross-out type of movie (i.e. torture porn, gorn) .. certainly nowhere near the masterful Audition.

It's very graphic but in a ironic way like Tarantino, it's completely different from Martyrs or that kind of stuff.

You're annoying. If you know anything about movies .. a lot of that doesn't work. Usually the 1st great one was enough. But you can sit in front of a screen all day and watch the ones that kinda do back to back and be wowed at the "epic-ness" & enhanced "development" of it all. There are also plenty of individual films that are long-winded if that is your thing, including some great ones.

How old are you? I'm guessing someone in their 20s.

I see where you going here. Not going to waste my time talking to you.

Good idea. You're better off talking to a brick wall.

I don't find Tarantino's movies graphic myself, sure they have some violent sequences in them that are cartoonish, but his films have so much more to them than just that .. layers

that's what I was trying to say... Ichi is more similar to Tarantino than the extreme horrors in that. It's not a bad movie at all (for my tastes I woul put it over Audition) more Kill Bill than Martyrs, even if it's a strange comparison.

Have Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later up for tonight.

It's just my opinion but that really it's a mediocre movie. By the way maybe Sunshine could be added as a sci-fi horror movie (and it's so much better than 28 days later)

Just finished viewing this one. What an excellent movie .. suspenseful, chilling, touching, wonderful.

A good description, makes me want to see it again; I haven't actually watched it since its release. :)

I find it interesting that the votes are so evenly distributed. Does that mean that the films are about the same in terms of their impact or is it a reflection of that we only have seen a limited sample of the films?

Never heard of Sunshine .. and couldn't get to 28 Days last nite (too busy with family) .. so I will have to get to it tonight; discussed it with my brother and his view mirrored the general wide-spread view, that it's a good, smart movie, an ingenious spin on the zombie thing. We shall see.

I know a lot of people liked 28 days later. I don't but well, different tastes. But anyway considering "ingenious spins" for the zombie genre, Pontypool is a movie that deserves to be mentioned.
And probably because you've mentioned Descent I have remembered another very claustrophobic short movie that I liked, Haze of Shinya Tsukamoto.

I have seen only few of them, but I've seen most trailers, and most of those have been enough for me to think "ugh, another one of those films ..." and move on. ;)

Most horror movies I like just happen to be good dramas in disguise, so for me, the impact certainly isn't the same among the films listed.
