The best example of modern metal for those who don't like metal. So a surprise that I like it, maybe?  :D
Very much melodic and emotionally intense throughout.

Superb, though!

Austin Wintory is at it again - and this time, he delivered a true masterpiece.

You don't have to be a fan of games to appreciate music of this quality. Brilliant string writing, as usual, but what I love the most are the songs, made in collaboration with a trio called Tripod. Oh, the songs!

Soundtrack of the year, no contest.

New Grimes is out, 'Art Angels'. The reviews are pretty good.

The good kind of pop out there.

Art Angels truly is fantastic! I'm madly in love with the bass synth in California.

And speaking of a killer bassline, Missy's back with a vengeance:

(to the delight of all the rap aficionados here on GMG, I'm sure $:))

Can't wait for the new album which is due January. I was one of the few people who didn't enjoy The Next Day (except for the singles and the closing track, Heat – one of the best things Bowie's ever done) but this sounds very promising. Love the saxophone parts, courtesy of the man himself, I presume.

Fairly recent band who I just discovered through looking at the Nuclear Blast bands. Probably something I should do more often.
Some songs are better than others... first song is great. So much emotion in this music.

I can't get over this picture of the lead vocalist, Floor Jansen. Too good...  :P

Flor Jansen!- right on!

I saw Nightwish this past spring in Los Angeles at the Greek Theater up in Griffith Park (near the Hollywood letters). Sabaton and Delain opened.

She was a bit nervous for the first forty minutes or so- then she suddenly came into her own and lost her inhibitions. I really liked her version of "Stargazers" that night- which really is such a 'Flor' song and not a 'Tarja' one- 'Full-tilt charge Valkyrie' all the way.

Pure fun. The entire show was great.

Easier slayed than done. Is anyone shocked that I won?

Yeah, she definitely has a good voice. Her growls are good, too, but I understand she doesn't want to do them too often to preserve her voice.

I read an interview with her, and she was saying how she's sick of people after every single show asking how tall she is and doing a concert and then talking to people afterward is extremely draining. One comment said it's probably because she's probably an introvert, which I found amusing because I'd imagine I could relate if I were doing the same thing. Might also help explain how she performed- at first, being slightly annoyed that you're singing for other people and then just eventually forgetting about it and singing like you're alone in your room. I would almost bet money on that's how her mind works.

That's the first I've heard from Nightwish. Really haven't checked out much symphonic metal, but sounds pretty neat.

Any band that can hold its own with Sabaton has it goin' on.

I didn't really appreciate Nightwish until I had a revelation about their lyrics..

Ahhhh. The 'Joycean remix.'

The Village Voice is calling it "brilliant."

Cool, slipped under my radar completely! I've enjoyed most of their work since they morphed into the 'Beach Boys of the current age' mode. The lead track sounds fun:

Wonderful thread. I liked Newsom, Deradoorian, Wintory. (just on this page)

I found this during random sampling. I had no idea about the artist, but the first track immediately grabbed me.
