Kontrapunctus

Line of Duty on Hulu (originally a BBC program). It's easily one of the best detective series I've seen.

I do love this show. Some very clever ideas and very oddball at times, but strangely life affirming for a show that revolves around death.

One thing I like about it is that Ellen Muth is completely believable as a rebellious teenager in a way, say, Sarah Michelle Gellar never quite was.  Curiously, I think this is because SMG had been acting since she was 4 years old, so exuded a bit too much sophistication.

I also like that the show is as much about modern working life as it is about the soul reaping.

Enjoyed the latest two episodes: The Witchfinders and It Takes You Away; the latter was especially good. A portal to a sentient universe whose laws are so incompatible with ours that it poses a threat to reality was a marvellous idea, and the execution of that idea was original, intriguing and actually very surprising. There's a certain scene with a frog that a number of Facebook and YouTube 'critics' seem to have an issue with, but personally I thought it amazing how emotionally moving such a potentially ridiculous scene turned out being.
The final episode The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos was great. Perfect way to end a very strong season. The cast was small in this episode, but really strong. The return of the villain from the first episode was good, but here he was even better than I expected.

First season was great. It went downhill fast in the second season, I think.

Just about finished re-watching Arrested Development Seasons 1-3.

What's the verdict, are seasons 4 and 5 worth it? I tried to watch season 4 once before, before they re-cut it into something closer to the original format, but didn't take to it.

I gave up part way through 4. YMMV of course.

spending an entire season on a story arc (whose bones are in the suitcase?) that could easily have been covered in two episodes as an epilogue to season 4

I saw Thandie Newton in the cast list.  How much is she in this?

Probably original, since it was not long after it first came out.

Narcos: Mexico.  The fourth season picks up some better known (in the US) names - Michael Peña and Diego Luna - and ups the cinematic ante.  It generally looks very good.  It does tend toward glamorization a bit, some of it self-aware in that De Palma's cheesefest Scarface gets a nod.  The dialogue is generally good, the story tight, and the acting good.  Diego Luna is reasonably good in his role as the padrino, and he is much handsomer than the thug he portrays.  He's also not as compelling or as imposing as Wagner Moura's portrayal of Pablo Escobar, a point which is brought home when Moura pops up in one episode where the Columbian and the Mexican cut a deal.  I look forward to the gratuitously violent fifth season.
The universe is change; life is opinion. - Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

People would rather believe than know - E.O. Wilson

Propaganda death ensemble - Tom Araya

Kims Convenience - second time through the series on Netflix. Very funny, cute show.

a third viewing of season one, and a first viewing of season two

why isn't this superb show more famous or more talked about?

The first episode looks promising, but who knows where it'll go.

Anyone watching Escape from Dannemora? Is is it any good? There seems to be two opinions: great, detailed, suspenseful show OR slow-paced boring tedious offering. Which is it?

It's both, but then I like what people call slow and boring. I definitely recommend it.

To me it depends. If it's a kind of slow realism, I can get very excited. But if it's slow character development and flashbacks, I'm out. Recently, I feel that flashbacks and explication are in fashion. People want to be spoon-fed but I'll give this one a go. I might love it.
