Hello again all!! Please forgive the rather long absence - I have been intending to revisit for quite a while, and here I am! I can't promise as regular a presence here but I look forward to talking to all of you again and enjoying Sarge's banter once again!

For those who don't know me, I'm Daniel, 18 from England, a conductor and composer who is indeed rather keen on Mahler.... and a lot of stuff from the 20th century!

We have been rational about Mahler for months now and I am sick and tired of it!!!

Don't worry, I'm here with my hammer and I'll make sure rationality about Mahler doesn't happen again ;)

Hello Daniel! How's life been treating you lately? Composed or performed much?

I'm OK, not enjoying uni much but am nearly finished writing a viola concerto and am enjoying working with my orchestra I set up and conduct.. we did Nielsen 1 over the winter :)

Why aren't you enjoying university, Daniel? Tough classes? Boring classes? Professors making you write 12-tone music. ;) ;D

I, too, am keen on Mahler, and it would be a joy to hear music by someone influenced by him. There is no composer I am as mad about.

That was a great game, but, truth be told, I'm happy to see Tom Brady go home. I doubt the Broncos can beat Carolina however. If Broncos pull it off, I'd be surprised.

BTW, my change of avatar was done with excellent timing, it would seem.

Welcome back!  :)

Does this mean we can can continue the Brahms no. 2 blind comparison?  8)

Did I never post those Brahms 2 results? Gosh I was a mess... I do apologise! Has there been a Blind Comparison since my departure? Not that I was keen on them or anything.... ;)

Thank you all for the welcome back :)

Funny you should point that out.. our composition task this year really frustrated me.... 'to write a piece using only 4 pitches for one instrument and two found objects'.... and by found objects, I mean saucepans and frying pans and so forth.. it was not fun.  >:D ::) So, compositionally, Manchester doesn't look too promising for me I have to say.... Apart from that, I'm just bored. Not enough to keep me preoccupied which is not helpful when you're missing all the happiness back home..

Actually, that sounds kind of fun for me. :) How long does the work have to be or is the duration not specified? Sometimes putting limitations on yourself can be a good thing and the outcome of the piece could be great. It gets you to think outside of the box. But, yes, I can understand how you're homesick. Hopefully, things will go better for you down the road.
