And, of course, that there has been some faddish exaggeration, does not mean that there is not a genuine, serious, systemic problem.

But that is too nuanced for the right-wing bobble-heads.

Huh? Elon Musk is as WASP as it gets. And given that he was born in 1971 in South Africa and left it in 1989, he is also a beneficiary of white privilege.  ;D

South Africa in 1971? There was no special privilege for whites there and then. Hmm... :o

Trump and his advisors are simply relying on different dictionary meanings of treason and treasonous than you, that's all.

Nyuk, nyuk. But, wouldn't matter. His statement is despicable by any definition — and if Trump owned a dictionary, he, or one of his functionally literate cronies, would have looked up "vindicated."

I hate to remind people that with all of her faults, the meddling by the Russians, and Comey with his handling of the e-mail investigation; Hillary still won the popular vote by 2.7 million.  I still do not get what Hillary being a crappy candidate has to do with our flawed electoral system that favors rural America over urban America.

I'm sure you thought this was a coherent response to something I wrote, but I can't imagine how.

If the worst thing you've got to worry about is changing the word mankind to something more gender neutral - which I thought happened some time in the 70s - then you're living an amazingly sheltered life and you should count your blessings

I hate to remind you that the US Presidency is specifically designed not to be won by popular vote; I hate to remind Hillary Clinton that her neglecting to campaign in those states she wrongly thought were thoroughly blue cost her the Presidency.

QuoteI still do not get what Hillary being a crappy candidate has to do with our flawed electoral system that favors rural America over urban America.

The self same flawed US electoral system that favors rural America over urban America has produced FD Roosevelt, JF Kennedy, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.

1. Do you suggest they were just as  illegitimate as Trump is? If yes, then game over, you win; if not, then... then what?

2. Do you suggest that an electoral system that would favor urban America over rural America would be more fair and desirable? If yes, then game over, you win; if no, then may I humbly mention that the 2.7 million votes for Hillary over Trump came precisely and mainly from urban (ie, New York and California) America?

And before you (or others) accuse me of being a Trumpster / right-wing bobble-head, I hasten to add that (1) I am not a US citizen and (2) had I been one, I'd have gone the write-in route.

On the other hand, you didn't bother to respond coherently to this:

What many here fail to realize is that the vast majority of people living in western democracies are basically conservative people who want to raise their families and get on with their lives.  They don't care about women screeching like hyenas about #metoo or any other marginal issue which just isn't going to affect their lives.  They want to have jobs, love their country and be left alone.

I think you're wrong. The above applies (for the time being only) to post-USSR Eastern democracies such as Poland, Hungary, the Baltic States and Romania; but in the West proper, and especially in the US and Canada, I'm afraid that conservative people of the type you describe are already a minority, at least among the 20-30 age group, ie the millennials, while the conservative people in the 40-plus age group are bullied into silence or submission; if you're willing to take your chance with the "Western society and culture" then place your bet rather on East than West. I second and Amen! you to it.

I just pointed out to the following facts: (1) Elon Musk is a WASP by any stretch of the definition, and (2) he has benefited from the white privilege of being born a WASP in 1971 South Africa.

If I am wrong, please correct me, I'll gladly stand corrected.

Hillary Clinton won all of the states she thought were thoroughly blue. Her loss is attributable to the fact that she lost a series of swing states that she was wrongly expected to carry. It can be argued from now to eternity whether her campaign resources were deployed optimally, but there was no gross error in strategy as you allege.

Those were all elections were the popular vote and the electoral college agreed. There would be no basis for disputing those elections.

The current system allocates disproportional representation to states with small population, not to rural areas. New York and California are not mainly urban, both are mainly rural. But they are geographically large and contain multiple population centers. The current scheme gives them a low ratio of delegates to population, so both rural and urban voters in New York and California are underrepresented. Rhode Island has a very small population and voters there have disproportionate representation, although the proportion of urban voters is relatively high.

No one is proposing a scheme that favors rural voters over urban. There are proposals to give equal weight to all voters, regardless of where they live.

yes. Irony. But I think I didn't understand the point of your comment. Trump, reportedly, thinks these are shithole countries. Of course, if he's the racist he seems to be, he probably doesn't think of Musk this way.
